RSV at preschool

Last week we got a note that strep throat was going around, and now we got a message that RSV is going around.

Any experience with this in a preschool age DC?  I looked it up and it pretty much sounds like a bad cold, I wasn't sure how it was diagnosed, how easy it spreads, etc.

Re: RSV at preschool

  • That seems pretty old for RSV, I thought that was an issue w/ wee ones.

Anyway. ... yeah, pretty much a bad cold from waht I know.

  • From what I read, it is very popular under age 2, and pretty bad for babies.. but that was about it..?
  • I would not worry about it at this age.  It is a cold that tends to settle in the lungs.  No treatment for it, but time.  DS2 had it numerous times last year and in the hospital for 4 days plus a few ER visits, but that was because he was so young.  DS1 never even got a cold.

  • DD had RSV at early age 3. It isn't as bad/life-threatening as for the really little ones but it was pretty miserable. She had such horrendous and scary coughing fits...and that led to so much puking. It is awful.
