  • Great list, especially #7 & 8. Those are my biggest name pet peeves.

Great to see you on the board again braveangel!

  • They certainly have grown a lot in nine years when they were recommending the name Kaden as fresh and masculine in one of their Beyond Jennifer and Jason books (or whatever it's called). What a joke! They should have listed don't pay too much attention to what baby name "experts" have to say about a name on here.

  • I agree with it, for the most part. I am one of those people who will get rid of a name if it's on the top 100 list (hence why Liam will only ever be a middle name now), so I don't follow it to a T. Also, the weird spelling thing for me is only ok if A) it's like a gaelic name and thats how it is supposed to be spelled or B) if your naming your kid after someone and thats how there name is spelled. Though I think that is pretty much the best naming advice.

  • I think they're pretty good points, but I am cutting names due to popularity for this baby.  I always hated being one of five Brittanys everywhere I went, so I'm vetoing DH's super-popular choices.

  • I love all of these points, especially the last four. The nickname thing really cracks me up. The world is bigger than you, indeed.

  • I agree with it for the most part. I don't know if I agree with number 2, I wouldn't want to give my kid a super popular name. But not because I want to be really unique, I just don't want them to be one of like 10 Liams or something like that.

  • I agree with all except No. 2. I do eliminate names based on popularity. Probably because I am a Jennifer myself but I do not want my daughter to be known by her last initial rather than her first name itself.

ummm...unless they said "the name Kaden is refreshing and will be for the rest of time", I don't really see your point. It WAS refreshing at the time.

  • Pretty much agree with them all!  Also, spelling Riley as Rylea does not make it creative.  It's just a ridiculous spelling but when said it's still just another Riley.  I wish someone would have told the girl at my church who just had a Rheagan that.  Adding an h just makes it a spelling variation.  She'll still run the risk of being Reagan S or Reagan with an H in class.  It's not like they picked the name Matilda, which is number 800 for 2010.  I know Reagan isn't crazy popular (127) but if you want a name that's less common actually pick a less common name, not a you-neek spelling!

  • The nickname one is so true.  In my youth group we had 4 Jennifer's.  One went by Jennifer, one went by Jenny, one went by Jen, so by the time the 4th one came, we started calling her Jenna.  Everyone else calls her Jennifer or Jen, but she will forever be Jenna to those of us in the youth group.
