bad taste in your mouth?

This is my second pregnancy and I'm 6 weeks now. For about the last week, I have had a horrible taste in my mouth all the time. I also have nausea so it just makes it worse. Hardly anything sounds good at times but I'm managing to eat us out of house and home, lol. Anyone else have a bad taste in their mouth with their pregnancy?

Re: bad taste in your mouth?

  • I've had this weird almost metallic taste in my mouth for about the past week. I've never heard of this as a pregnancy symptom before but it's definitely noticeable.

  • Yes, I have the metallic taste every now and again. It makes drinking tomato juice, which I love by the way, taste really nasty! It has affected a few other foods that I like too..so you aren't alone.

  • Funny you say that about the tomato juice, Babybear 70, I had a sample of salsa yesterday at this trade show we went to and I had one small bite of it and was thinking "this salsa has gone bad!" Yuck...I bet that's why it tasted weird. :(
  • I dont' know if this counts but Wheat Thins now taste like fish.

  • I had it till about last week. It has finally gone away. Sucking on mints and stuff really helped.

I'm gonna have to find something to relieve it! The thought of peppermints makes me nauseous but I think I may have to grin and bear it. Ugh...

    Popsicles, mmmm.

  • I have it too, and I find myself constantly trying to eat/drink or do anything to get rid of this taste bc it makes my nausea worse!  It also makes foods taste differently -i second the salsa comment, the salsa i normally love tastes so weird right now its crazy lol.  I cant stop looking for a drink or candy/mint/gum but after its gone the taste is always back.  Whatever I've eaten seems to linger and even brushing my teeth does not take it away!
  • No nausea (knock on wood!!!!!!), but yes, the bad taste in the back of my mouth/throat is weird.  I had the metallic taste a while back, just briefly, but this is different.  Like I ate a banana and the residue/taste is still hanging out in the back, no matter what I eat/drink.

  • EmmaRJ, popsicles might be just the right thing! ;)
  • I don't remember this at all with my first two. I noticed it a few days ago when putting a snack in my mouth and I thought my fingers had soap on them still or something yucky. I'm glad to know that my soap isn't horrible smelling and that there is nothing wrong with my taste buds! lol

  • Drinking orange juice has been the only thing that has helped me with that icky taste and the queesies.

This is exactly how I feel.  It seems like the taste of anything I eat just lingers in my mouth (in a bad way) until I eat something else, and then that taste lingers.  I'm pretty sure I would feel much less nauseous if it weren't for this yucky taste.  I had it even worse with my first pregnancy.  I used to have to carry around a bottle of Listerine with me because it was the only thing that would temporarily get rid of the taste.  From what I can recall, I think it went away around 15 weeks or so.

  • They say the bad taste is from the PreNatals. I couldn't take mine, they were making me soooo sick. I've started taking Vitafusion gummy prenatals, and the taste in my mouth has decreased quite a bit. Also, try really strong gum, it settles your stomach sometimes also.
  • Yep, I'm 9 weeks and have also had that since about 6 months... So frustrating! What helps a tiny bit is gurgling a little bit of water with baking soda. It's gross and your mouth tastes a little soapy for a few minutes, but it's WAY better than the full out bad taste. I'm hoping that it can go away soon because, as you've said, it definitely does not help the nausea...
