Hi everyone -
My little one is due June 10 and we're of course, already thinking about childcare. Does anyone have any affordable solutions? We'd like to keep childcare at about $1000 a month. Any recommendations for good home daycares in the Arlington or Alexandria area?
Re: Affordable Childcare
i love our DCP in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria. it's in a house and they are licensed as in-home providers, but it's more like a center in that no one lives in the house and the entire ground floor is dedicated to the daycare. they only take 10 children at a time. PM me for contact information. they are in your price range.
ETA: most IH-DCP don't have waiting lists and don't know when they will have openings. when i was expecting our first, i made a short list of IH-DCP i liked and planned to contact all of them several weeks before I would need to go back to work. some that i talked to didn't want to talk until i had an outside baby (none of them made my short-list, just telling you to be prepared for that). also, $1000 is a reasonable price point for in-home in arlington/alexandria. that's where we looked and that was a little higher than our price point 5 years ago.
Our in-home provider is $225/week we got her based on a recommendation from someone in our neighborhood.
She mostly likes taking care of babies so DS will probably be going somewhere else next Fall. PM me if you would like more info.
Otherwise, there are in-home providers that are around the price you are looking for. The City of Alexandria has a list of DCPs registered with them.

It's a very early to be able to nail anything down. DCPs do not know when they will have openings until a month or so beforehand.
