I went to my ob today. She gave me a prescription for both. I have not had any morning sickness (knock on wood). But I got them both filled, just in case. The Dr. Told me Zofran can make you constipated, and Phenergan can make you sleepy. I teach, would Zofran be better to take during the day? Does it make you drowsy? Any thoughts on zofran vs phenergan?

Re: Zofran vs Phenergan
Pharmacist said the same thing to me about Z and P, I tried the P one morning and I didn't have any drowsiness but it may affect you differently. Both work beautifully for me but my insurace would only let me have a minimal amout of the Z so I've been working with the P mostly.
Unfortunately, I cannot give you any advice on Phenergan, but I can tell you that while Zofran is my miracle medication, it does in fact make you extremely constipated (or this is what happened to me at least). Within about 36 hours after starting the medication I was already horribly constipated. Now, I take a regular cocktail of Metamucil and Fibercon to keep regular. I find that if I miss even a single dose I start to have problems again.
If you are worried about getting sleepy (I would be worried as well), I would suggest starting a fiber regimen as soon as you start the Zofran - hopefully this will prevent you from ever getting constipated in the first place. Not to mention, my OB says there is no harm in taking the extra fiber anyway.
I have both and honestly the Zofran did nothing for me. The Phenergan knocks me out. I take it about 30 min before I go to bed and I wake up feeling good.
It was in a bag of stuff, the prescription was even stamped on the doctor's pad...I think it is standard there... that everyone gets one... lol
This was my first visit with my ob today. I have been under the are of an RE since last year. and I don't think I will have m/s but I don't wanna need it and not have it...
As a nurse and a soon to be mom, when my morning sickness was just more than I could take, I took zofran. Phenergan just makes people too sleepy.
I had no problems with the zofran when I took it. As far as the constipation...that happened to me because of the baby. Colace if safe to take and eating prunes or a high fiber diet....I recommend broccoli. It works.
It really does help!!! It was my miracle medication during the first trimester.
