Moving into their own room

When did y'all move your LO into their own room? DD is turning four months and is now too heavy for the bassinet. Is it time to move her? I am afraid I may have more separation anxiety than she will!

Re: Moving into their own room

  • I'm struggling with this too.  My daughter just turend 4 months and she still sleeps in her pack n play in our room.  My husband keeps saying we need to move her to her room, but I'm resisting.

  • We just transitioned her from her Rock N Play to her Pack N Play in our bedroom. She will stay there for at least 6 months then we will slowly start introducing her to her room lol. Beautiful nursery and we only go in there for diaper changes!

  • Before she was born my plan was to keep her in our room until she was sleeping at least 4 hour stretches. Well she did that the first week home. So she's been in her own room since! I definitely don't envy your emotions of "moving her out". Good luck!

  • Dylan is 4.5 months old now and I just moved him to his crib 3 nights ago. I started off getting him used to it by putting him in the crib for naps during the day. Now he's on a routine of going to bed at 7pm and sleeping through the night. The first night I had the worst anxiety about moving him into his crib, but I packed up the co-sleeper and put it all away so I couldn't use it anymore. He has done AMAZING in his crib and I am so happy I have done it now. I am a little sad that I can't snuggle him while he sleeps now, but he is much happier getting into a deep sleep in his crib than being held in my arms during the day.

    Good luck!!

  • I planned to keep dd in the PnP bassinet in our room for the first three months.  Well, she hated it!  I think our room was too cold for her.  So we put her in her crib in the nursery very early and since then, we all slept better.  However, I heard phantom baby cries for several nights after moving her, and I woke up all the time to check the monitor thinking I heard her when in fact she was sleeping peacefully.  Good luck!

  • We moved DD at two months when she started STTN.  It was rough, but we were all ready.

DS is another story!!  He is very small so I like to make sure I can feed him each time he wakes up through the night even if he doesn't get into a full cry.  We have also had two SIDS deaths hit too close to home in the last year so he is still in our room and will probably be until at least six months.

  • DD has been in her own bed/room since she was 4 weeks old. Hope your transition goes smoothly. Good luck!

  • We moved our LO in her room when she turned 3 months. It was hard for the first few nights, but the angelcare monitor helped with my paranoia :)

    ..... Good Luck!

  • DS was in his Rock n Play for5 or so weeks, then he wouldn't sleep unless he was in bed with me, so we bedshared for a few more weeks. I just waited until he was sttn and then moved him. We're lucky we have a pretty easy going baby who takes after me and loves to sleep. I tried the transition on Friday night just in case I was in for a loooong night or 3 but he went down no problem. I think this issue, like most parenting issues, is more a "do what feels right for YOU" type of deal. If you're comfortable moving DD, then do it, if not, then wait. If she's outgrowing her bassinet, and you aren't ready, then move her crib into your room for the time being and get her used to sleeping in it. Then it might be a little easier to transition her to her own room when the time comes because she's used to her crib already.

  • We put LO in his room from the night we came home.  It worked best for us.  He's been fine and we've never had an issue with hearing him(small house and his room is 15 ft from our room).  We also have a video monitor which I think is great.  I was skeptical initially but it really helps in those moments when I start to worry b/c I can easily check on him.

I had the same problem and occasionally still do.  The video monitor is nice for this!

  • Our daughter is still in the pack n play in our room. Her room is on a different floor and our steps are steep, so we didn't want to move her until she was sleeping through the night. She is starting to be way more consistent in her sleeping, so we will probably test the waters the week of Thanksgiving, since we'll both be off work. I think I will miss her, though.
