with two weeks until my due date, I am starting to feel worried I haven't "done my homework" enough so to speak.
DH and I have read the Bradley book and practiced some of the exercises. We didn't take any sort of class because we recently moved to Germany and don't speak enough German to go to a local class.
We are on the same page re: med free birth and birth preferences (no circ, babe to breast right away, etc) so I feel confident about that.
I am just worried I will cave and ask for drugs because we haven't done a ton of prep.
Any suggesions/experience?
Re: feeling unprepared
DH and I didn't take any classes, we just read the Bradley book together. That's all the prep we did.
I went in with both DH and I knowing full well what all we wanted/didn't want to happen (as you said).
I ended up with Pit, but never caved and got the pain meds.
DH was amazing, and he's one of the main reasons I got through it. The other main reason was I brought along some classical music. I didn't think I'd care about music, but I swear it made a world of difference.
It also helped to visualize myself on a wave, riding up and down.
Go in being clear about what you want, but make sure your H does too. Once things get going, chances are you'll be too "in the zone" to speak up for yourself.
You can totally do this!! Don't be worried because you haven't taken a class. Listen to your body and do what feels right for you.
Don't worry! You can do this! When the time comes, just abandon yourself to Laborland! It is hard work, probably the craziest workout you'll ever go through, but just stay calm and relaxed and breath through the pressure waves/contractions. When I got down to the last hour of my labor and was having serious contractions, I visualized breathing in "peace," letting "joy" expand in my uterus, and pushing out "love." It was such an amazing feeling to be able to push out a bundle of love!
One of the best things during contractions was heat and pressure on my lower back... couldn't have lived without it! Oh and make sure you are drinking and eating small things. Coconut water is highly recommended for labor - it has loads of electrolytes. I happened to munch on animal crackers during labor... I wasn't sure if I would ever eat another one afterwards, but I have.
Hope everything goes well!
thanks for the confidence boost
I appreciate it. I feel like I am taking on the biggest marathon of my life within the next few weeks, and feeling as if I haven't trained enough, I think!
thanks, ladies.

Could you order a book from Amazon? I just read Natural Hospital Birth (Cynthia Gabriel) and found it really helpful! I just mentioned it on another post - I promise I am being sincere about my feeling for the book & not trying to push it or anything. We're taking a birth class right now and I really think the book gave us a head start. It's a quick read, so I think you could get a lot of info, even being 2 weeks from your due date.
Also, make sure you make a birth plan...:-) GL!!
