  I got DS the Fisher Price lil' Zoomers race car toy.  He already has the FP activity table, which he loves, so that's an option too if your DS doesn't have one.  He is also getting a train scooting toy and I may also get him a rocking horse.  It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that other toys have, but I love that it is just a classic toy.

  My youngest loves the baby tickle me Elmo. It has an on/off switch so you can turn it off when the giggles start to annoy you. It's so cute to see him carry it around like he's hugging it.

  DS was about 6 months his first Christmas and I got him a pushy cart thing and some Duplo blocks. For his first birthday I got him  walk along bike thing that he really liked.

  The talking Elmo -- either the new sing along one or the older Elmo Live.   Get a plush one for him to hold too.  There are some great Sesame Street or Elmo TV remotes and cell phones.  Also think about a large Cushy Cruiser -- think of the soft Tonka trucks but bigger (not large enough to ride on).  Also look at some of the smaller soft Tonka trucks -- not the smallest size but in between.  Busy ball popper if you don't have one.

  I second the Dino!!!!!!!!!!!!!! S got that for her birthday and it was an absolute hit. I like it better than the other ball popping toy, the kids always got things stuck (deliberately) down part of it. This thing:
