I saw in Kristin's post that you are using MAPS! We are actually considering using them for our International adoption. How do you like them so far? We are signed up for a webinar on Thursday through them. We live in NH and have found very few agencies for a home study, have you had yours yet with them?
Sorry for all of the questions, we are trying to narrow down agencies and would love feedback about MAPS!
Thank you!

::jumping in, per usual...::
Deb - we are signed up for the webinar for Russian adoptions as well. We were looking at domestic adoptions, but our nephews are both adopted from Russia, so we thought that it would be really nice to look into that option as well.
That's excellent Kristin! I am really interested to see how they operate, the info they sent us looks great, I am really leaning towards this agency. Which agency did your family go through for the Russian adoption?
btw, max is sooooo cute!
Thanks! He's really a sweetie pie - already cuddling up - but still a fun little kitten. Bitsy is going nuts outside his door - she wants to meet him! But, because the shelter was so overcrowded, they said to keep them separate for 5 days in case he develops an upper respiratory infection. So, they are at the "sniffing each other through the door" phase right now. And they are talking to each other. Pretty darned cute.
I will ask my SIL Maria who she used - it was 10 years ago at this point, but I know she was really happy with them - and she had done a lot of research at the time. Her BFF also adopted from whatever agency she used and has two Russian girls. I don't know why I didn't ask her before this - I'm so overwhelmed with all the choices!
hi Deb,
We've been pretty pleased with them so far. We are using them for their domestic networking program, so we won't adopt directly though them, but through a network of agencies that MAPS has already screened. We just finished our homestudy and are waiting for MAPS to issue the final report. It went pretty well, i thought the process was a little awkward, but I think I just found it odd being asked to talk about my childhood in little quotable snippets.
We had our adopt ed class with them as well (we ended up going to one in NH), and found that every educational. One of the couples who showed up had adopted through MAPS internationally a few years before (china I think) and was coming back to adopt domestically. We also know of BM that have placed through MAPS and been pleased, so I figure if they are treating the BMs well it says good things about the agency.
Let me know if you have any questions. (or feel free to email me : fromthearcticnorth at gmail dot com). Good luck!

Thanks Sarah! It's always good to hear of first hand experiences with an agency! We are excited for the Webinar on Thursday!
Whereabouts in Maine to you live? We are in Southern NH!
Damn! Bangor is up there! My folks live a little south of you out by Farmington. I thought that was a long ride! I'm originally from MA too...
Are you looking in the NE area for domestic adoption or will you go anywhere?
We're looking pretty much nationwide. Our agency will help us judge how much risk we are willing to take and pick states accordingly. So we could be looking at a last minute flight to almost anywhere!
