Re: Babywise Users

  • well, I think I do, lol. I never read the book or anything but my friend told me the gist was "eat, awake, sleep" every 3 hours. I've been doing that right from the start (daytime only of course). So I feed them their bottle, keep them up for around an hour. If they are cranky we nap, and if they are still having fun we keep playing until they get cranky (then we nap) and then we do it all over. I guess it works, my girls have been STTN since about 8 weeks old and are wonderful sleepers!

Im just having a really hard time w/ the "play" part. I can hardly keep them awake to eat.

  • At that age, the "play" part may just be 15-20 minutes of awake time after feeding them. I never read Babywise but we did a 3-hour schedule of eat-awake-sleep from day one, and for the first month or two, the awake times were really short. It wasn't until like 6w that they would stay awake for even an hour after feeding. Even now at 14 months, the longest they stay awake is 3-4 hours before needing a nap.
  • At 2w adjusted, there isn't going to be much "play". At that age, we'd do diaper changes after the bottle, just to keep them awake a little longer. That worked really well for us. Even still they'd sometimes try to doze during their bottles.  Try not to stress if the eat-play-sleep thing doesn't work perfectly every time. The goal is to not associate food with sleep and one or two times falling asleep during a bottle at 2w old isn't going to cause that.

  • we did it for our singleton and our twins -  and all of them were STTN at 8 weeks with it! We LOVED it.

we started day one with them- in the hospital the nurses had them on a 3-hour eating schedule- and we continued it when they came home.  Ds1 was 4w early... the twins were 2w early - and it worked great with all of them.

the "play" time is minimal for the first month or two- don't stress about it- just maintain NOT feeding them GET them to sleep- a bad habit to start... if they are eating when they wake up -that's what matters most early on.

we are huge fans- it kept our boys happy, well rested, etc - and enabled us to have a life- plan ahead, and know what to expect and when.  Of course- you have to be flexible, but aiming for the schedule is all you need to do- and it all works out great.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • Yes it did- I LOVE Babywise.  I think it saved our sanity!

I started using it Day 1

I absolutely recommend it- it's a great way to get your needs met and your child's needs met.

Play- like other said, just emphasize not feeding to sleep at that age, and you'll be fine.

I really have no negative things to say about it.  My girls slept 7 hour stretches at 9 weeks and it changed my whole world!  My girls have always been great sleepers, sleeping 12 plus hours at night and napping for 3 (sometimes 3 plus) hours a day.  I credit all that to Babywise.

  • Love Babywise!  We started, trying, to use it right away.  We followed the basic principles.  We got to a much better "schedule" by three months.  By four months the babies were sleeping 12 hours straight at night without waking.  No cons...I never felt like I wasn't responding to the kids needs.  If they really needed me i went to them, if they were just settling down, I let them work it out.  It is a great system, IMO.
