C-sections

What underwear should I buy for a C-section?

Not what kind, what exact pair?  Where did you get yours?  Is there a link you can show me?  I want to buy a bunch but don't want to waste money if they aren't any good.

Re: What underwear should I buy for a C-section?

  • I went to Target and bought highwaisted spandex kind. I don't have a link since I'm on my phone but just buy higher underwear than a normal bikini and you will be fine.

  • Don't laugh, but I used Depends after I had all of my kids. I still used pads in them, they were just for extra protection. They turned out to be really great after my c-section because they came up so high and they were able to hold a pad in place across my incision. If you don't want to use those then I would go with high waist underwear like pp suggested.

  • Take as much of the mesh stuff from the hospital as you can.  Honestly, I wore that for a few weeks until the bleeding settled down.  I did buy some high wasted though, which you'll definitely need so it doesn't rub up against the incision.

  • I bought these. They're super unsexy but they do the trick! Plus they're pretty cheap and I didn't feel bad about getting rid of them once I didn't need them anymore. They were the perfect height for me and I never worried about them falling into my incision.

  • Oh, I think I just bought Hanes at Walmart.

  • I ended up buying maternity underwear at the end of my pregnancy and just wore them afterwards as well.

But ditto to taking as much of the mesh undies as you can! I loved those!

  • I used the mesh ones from the hospital at home for about a week and then switched to cotton briefs.  The pack I bought after my son was born were Merona for Target, and I don't think they make them anymore.  This time I bought the Hanes assorted back like the PP, but I bought briefs instead of bikinis.  I got mine at Target, but I'm sure you can also find them at Walmart, K-mart, etc.
  • I bought briefs from Hanes too. You just want them to have the band up high above your scar.

  • I got Hanes high cut briefs in two sizes bigger than my pre-pregnancy size. They came up to around my belly button so they weren't even close to my incision. They were cheap so if the got stained or gross I didn't mind tossing them. By 6-8 weeks I was back to normal style underwear.

I wear the high wasted Hanes.   When did you start wearing your regular underwear again?

I would say by 5-6 weeks I was back in my normal underwear

  • I mostly wore the mesh undies from the hospital, but also Hanes High cut brief

  • Walmart. Big. Giant. Granny. Panties. It's going to get bled on, like, a LOT, and you don't want it to be rubbing your incision. My advice is to buy throw-away underwear once you're through the mesh panties they'll give you at the hospital.

  • Ditto on the Hanes granny panties. They are like $5 for a 6 pack so you can toss them when you're done or if you stain them. I started wearing my normal panties today (almost 4 weeks out) and it feels just fine.

  • I didn't like the mesh ones. They stuck to my incision so it was uncomfortable. My incision wasn't covered because glue was used. My first c-section was unplanned and emergency, so I only had my normal low rise one afterwards but my wonderful mom brought me a new pack of high waisted underwear. I loved those for after. Just white cotton high waisted briefs.

slightly off topic, but I'm thinking about getting a bella band because I am hoping it will help for after too, to add support and compression, and prevent my pants from sliding around against my incision. I don't know if it will work though we'll see.

  • I wore regular underwear after I was done using the sexy mesh undies from the hospital. It didn't irritate my incision at all.

  • I (well DH since I had an emergency C) bought hanes high waisted underwear from target.  He bought them a size larger than I would normally wear and they are perfect.  Never thought I would have to wear granny panties everyday in my 20s, but while I'm still wearing sweats, they are super comfy.

  • buy cheapie ones from Target/Walmart/etc so you won't feel bad about chucking them once 1) your incision is healed, 2) you get blood on them, or 3) you lose the baby weight!

I bought the cheapie Hanes highwaisted ones in one size larger than my normal size so that they didn't cause too much friction either.

oh, and the mesh ones from the hospital pressed weird grooves into my butt cheeks & made me itch! :P

Another vote for Depends with a pad inside them. My hospital didn't carry the coveted mesh panties that everyone talks about.
