Another bumpie recommended I ask you guys:
I've also posted this on the Chicago board as well but since it is SOOOO slow I thought I might get more feedback here.
We are looking to move to either North Plainfield or to Orland Park.
Can anyone recommend what schools I should be looking out for or what
subdivision they would recommend? I really want to be closer to
civilization since I am 45 minutes to get to anything right now and we
would like a bigger home.
I am originally from the Palos area but my husband works in Naperville and his father is in a nursing home up there. We are looking for a 4 bedroom home and since everything is so low now we might buy. I really only know that district 230 is good for hs in Orland, but I'm not sure about Plainfield at all.
If there is a really great grade school/Jr High/HS district I should pick that is a HUGE factor for me. I really want good schools. I have heard to stay away from Oswego hs? I feel like I really don't have anyone in either of these locations to guide me, so any guidance would help. I've tried looking on a few sites that grade the schools but the info seems so arbitrary and confusing that I thought real people might have a better outlook.
Thanks again!
Re: Chicago South-ish Suburbs North Plainfield vs Orland Park?
I grew up in Orland Park. District 135 is excellent and they feed into district 230 (Sandburg).
As for specific subdivisions, it just depends on exactly what you want. Brook Hills is one of the largest and has many parks, but it lies more on the outskirts of town closer to New Lenox. Some people like that because that means they're away from LaGrange Ave (which is a nightmare during traffic hour and from black Friday til Xmas because of the mall).
I would not recommend Alpine Heights or the neighborhood off of 143rd and Will Cook Rd just because of the fact that they are unincorporated, so you are not considered an actual resident of Orland (so no free library, no resident IDs or discounts to community places).
Otherwise, most neighborhoods in Orland are VERY nice. Since I don't know your price range I can't really narrow down my recommendations, but if you have a few houses you're looking at and have a question about those neighborhoods, feel free to ask!! (Also, I don't know anything about Plainfield) :P
