2nd+ time moms: postpartum hairloss

I am just remembering back to when DS was around 3months old and I started losing my hair like crazy. I am not looking forward to that part again! I know it is only temporary, it grew back, and I did not go bald, but sheesh! Any 2nd time moms have similar experiences or any who didn't lose hair?

  • I didn't lose any hair after my son was born but I also didn't notice thicker, fuller hair while I was pregnant with him either.

  • I lost a ridiculous amount around 3 months.... All near the front of my face.  It didn't look bad until it started growing back in and I had crazy little short patches framing my face.... ugh. Not looking forward to that again!

  • It should only last a few weeks, if it sticks around for a while or is excessive you might want to have your thyroid checked. I was still losing handfuls of hair when DD1 was 6 months old and it turned out that I had hypothyroidism.
  • I lost a TON of hair with both boys.  :(

  • I lost a bunch too. With my first it seemed like I just lost what I gained while I was pregnant. With my second, however, I lost a bunch and it just became thin and stringy. And that's where we are today. :( I used to be cute (sigh) now all my old cuteness has transferred to my kids!

  • I lost tons, all up front - you could see bald patches. I'm dreading that this time around. I feel like I was just starting to look normal again!

  • Mine was mainly up front too, I had one little bald patch that I had to make a come-over with a wider part to cover!

  • I have crazy thick hair and it gets thicker while pregnant.  I lost huge amounts of hair.  It was everywhere and came out in clumps.  So gross.

  • I did with DD1 too.  It freaked me out because no one told me to expect it.  I have an older cousin who has lupus, so I was freaked out thinking that's what it was.  Finally, my ob told me it was normal.  Nice to know after the fact!

  • I lost quite a bit but not until later on...if I remember correctly, I didn't start losing my hair until I really started weaning from breastfeeding so maybe around 10 months post partum or so.

  • Yes!  My hair is super thick anyway (like so thick that it's annoying), so I was happy to have some of it go away.  I was surprised at the amount I lost though.

  • I had to cut my hair short...seeing the handfuls of long hair come out was too traumatic.  That also helped to hide the shorter pieces while everything was growing back in.

  • I'm a FTM but have had 3 close girlfriends have babies all within a few weeks of each other, and I know they all told me to be prepared for that.  GREAT.  Just when you think your body will go back to normal.  ha ha.

  • Same for me - at about 3 months post-partum I lost tons of hair. It grew back, but I didn't feel normal (hair-wise) until about one year post-patrum. I had a lot of long, luscious hair and it was just thinned out and yucky! But it grows back, so don't worry!
