WWYD?

I posted awhile ago about picking out bedding for DD's new bedroom and big girl bed. My Mom offered to buy it for her for xmas. I picked out the one I liked (you might remember it was chocolate brown) and emailed her the links. Well, she decided to go out on her own and buy one on clearance from bon-ton that looks nothing like it. Basically the comforter is the same color as the walls with different colored polka dots on it. She bought an entire set (pillow shams/comforter/throw pillows/bedskirt) for $40.  The one we chose would have cost her at least $200. I knew she wouldnt want to spend that kind of money but insisted on still buying it for her. Honestly, i dont really like the set she bought-its ok, but not what I pictured for her room at all. And we have to buy window treatments and now I have no idea what color to get (I was going to do long choc brown drapes to go with the other set). So...WWYD-suck it up and keep the set and use it or buy the other set yourself and make Mom upset? Since she bought it on clearance, she can't return it. Oh, and shes already gone out and bought a ton of accessories to go with it.

Re: WWYD?

  • Hmmm any way to see a pic of the new one and what you had wanted? I would be annoyed about it too. She should have said something about a price limit or asked before she bought it.

  • That stinks, especially about all the accessories.  All I can say is your DD would probably grow out of it fast.. at 4.5, my DD wants all kinds of themed stuff, not the plain pinks and purples I chose, or even the tinkerbell comforter that I got her.  It's too bad it wasn't just a sheet set and a comforter, because that is easy to deal with, just rotate it with other sets (we have more than 1 set of sheets/comforter because of all the times DD has an accident, throws up, etc).  I would be interested to see a pic too.. or tell us what accessories..
  • Sounds like something my MIL would do.  Except she would get a completely different color/style that doesn't match anything.  At all.  I say go with it.  Chances are DD will want to pick something different in a yr or two anyway/
  • Mike is 6 and he's on his second set of big boy bedding already.  I've found that I wash the kid's comforters much more often so they wear out faster.

If the colors are similar and the accessories would go with either I might buy the other set also.  It's always nice to be able to fully swap out the bedding...comforter and all...if there is a night-time puke incident or something.

  • Ehh, I would use it, but that sort of thing doesn't bother me.  Now you know for next time how she is, so don't even talk to her about buying bedding for #2 or when this one needs to be replaced.
  • I can't find a pic of the one she bought-I think since it was on clearance, they dont have it online anymore.

This is the one I really wanted:

(FYI her wall color is the same as the pic above so it would look just like it)

The one she bought is basically the same color blue background with darker blue, white and magenta polka dots on it. Then she bought all of these throw pillows and wall hanging stuff to match it

  • If I am being truthful, I would probably use it since she couldn't take it back and got all the accessories for it and stuff, but I would be super annoyed about it and probably replace it at the first sign of wear. PPs are probably right - you will wash her bedding a lot more often and it probably won't hang around for a ridiculous amount of time...

  • Yeah, I change the kids comforters a lot.  Just this weekend we had vimit in T's room and B peed on her comforter during nap.
