Mini Crib vs Regular Sized Crib

The room we're using for a nursery isn't tiny, but I'm afraid a full size bed (down the road) will gobble up a lot of room.  Growing up, I always had a twin sized bed and I guess some of these Mini Cribs will convert for use with the twin mattress.

Just curious to know if anyone is considering or has purchased a Mini Crib and what you like/dislike about it?

PS.  Here's a link to the one I'm considering....

Re: Mini Crib vs Regular Sized Crib

  • I wish we would have bought a mini crib so that it could conver tto a twin.  We will have to get DD a new bed because a full will not fit in her room with another crib in there so we have to get a twin .  But when we are done having kids we have a nice headboard for a full size (regular crib we have) for a guest room some day!

We have purchased a mini crib- the Davinci emily, and we love it. It saves so much space. We also got the 5 inch mattress. The only downfall is that sheets are really hard to find.

Ahhhh!  Very good point!  I didn't think about that.  Thanks for bringing that to my attention!

  • We have a mini crib for this baby and while it isn't in use yet, it fits in the space we have available. I love the fact that it can turn into a twin size bed, but it wasn't the major selling point. Instead we appreciate that it is lower than a traditional crib and since I'm short and they've banned drop side cribs, we needed something that I could actually put a sleeping baby down in!
  • We have the same mini crib that you're looking at.  DD still sleeps in it, and she's a little bit over 2 yrs old.  We did not have room for a full size crib (or a full size bed), and this mini crib has worked great!  I also bought the thicker mattress.

As far as sheets, I bought a crib skirt and one sheet off this website and then bought some cheaper solid, coordinating sheets at BRU and mattress covers off of amazon.

Oh wow!  I'm glad to hear that your 2-year old is still getting good use out of this crib.  I was worried that our daughter would outgrow it fast, but that's reassuring!

Your daughter may not fit in the mini as long as PP's did.  My older cousin has three kids and while one of them has been a bit slower on the growth curve her other two shot up like weeds.

For what it's worth we are registering for a regular crib that we will use for a toddler bed as well.  When LO is ready for a "big boy" bed we will get a twin size.  I don't seem any good reason why a child should have a full size bed.

  • Sheetworld.com sells the mini crib sheets in the deeper size. That's where I bought mine.
