Seriously, I don't know what to do at this point. CIO doesn't work. Maybe I should say it works for a couple days, then he just goes back to waking up a million times a night and we have to do it all over again. Having a screaming toddler at bedtime and in the middle of the night every few nights just isn't going to cut it. At this point, I just want to know I'm not alone. I feel clueless as to what to do.
Last night he went to bed at 8, wasn't asleep until about 9:30, woke up at midnight and went back to sleep easily then woke up freaking out at 2:30 and had to come to our room. When he came in our room, he flipped and flopped for about an hour and 45 minutes then wanted to go back to his own room to go back to sleep. He woke up about 7. So, with the party in the middle of the night and the time change taken into account, he got about 8-ish hours of sleep. He normally gets about 10.5. This cycle has been going on for a long time now. We've tried an earlier bedtime and a later bedtime, doing each long enough to try to establish a pattern. He still takes forever to get to sleep no matter what time he goes to bed and still wakes up anywhere from 1-5 times a night. So frustrated and exhausted!
Re: Anyone else have a toddler that wakes a ton?
my 25 month old awakes at night no matter what I have done so I learned to accept it. What I found to make a HUGE difference was the amount of exercise she was getting I started giving her 2-4 hours of active play time and she sleeps way better she still wakes but only once and usually falls right back to sleep.
hope this helps!
Little Rose is 2 1/2.
We keep our house around 72 right now, so it definitely isn't too cold. I don't think it's too hot either because everyone else is comfortable.
It doesn't seem to matter how much exercise he gets, he still has these issues. It's definitely been slightly worse lately since I'm on bed rest and he isn't getting quite as much activity as he is used to, but at this point I can't do anything to change that because I can't take him places. I mean, up to 5 times a night is completely ridiculous in my book. I'm not going to accept that. Once I could handle, but more often than not it's somewhere between 3-5 times a night, with one long period where he is awake. I'm just at my wits end. I'm sure being super pregnant isn't helping in the patience department.
DD is still up about 2-3 times every night. I wish I had advice for you on how to change that!
Luckily she doesn't really scream and we're able to calmly walk her back to her own bed where she'll fall back to sleep. I feel for you, that must be tough. Bedtime got a little easier for us when she stopped napping. Well, maybe not easier per-say... she falls asleep faster, but is a lot more difficult and stubborn. So it's a trade off.
For a while he would go to bed at 7:30 and fall right asleep, wake maybe once. It's just gotten so bad lately. I hate to try dropping the nap less than a month before a newborn comes, but maybe it will help.
