Hi everybody! I am a FTM and I started this pregnancy off at 113 at 5'3 and a size 2 or 4. I swoooore I would not gain much weight and would be a beachball preggo girl buuut...I am almost 39 weeks and have gained (wait for it) 60 pounds!!!! What?! Are you kidding? My doctor said because I have so much fluid (my feet grew 2 sizes and my calves are full of water) so she is not worried about it and chalks it up to swelling.
For anybody that has had a baby already, has anybody gained that much weight or close to it and if so, how much time does it take to lose it? I used to work out all the time but stopped at pregnancy so my plan is to ease into my workouts when I am up to it (I hear you can barely put one foot in front of the other the first month due to lack of sleep) by just doing the eliptical and light weights then I begin kickboxing January 1st so I can do that maybe 2-3x a week with my SIL while my MIL watches my baby and SILs baby. 60 pounds seems impossible to lose though, even with working out and breastfeeding. Anybody care to share experiences?
Re: I feel like I will be huge forever!
I gained about 45 lbs during my pregnancy and about 2 weeks after birth I easily had lost 20 lbs. All I was doing was nursing. I am now 10 weeks pp and I still have 10 lbs to go. I feel like I lost most the weight, with the exception of the belly flab and my thighs/butt are slightly bigger. I can fit into one pair of my prepregnancy jeans, but again, the little bit of belly flab hangs over. Its not so bad. Nursing really, really helps.
I did yoga twice a week during my pregnancy, so I think that helped me bounce back. I do light yoga at home now, and go on walks/hikes with LO maybe twice a week and I nurse. I am trying to eat healthy, but I am not dieting as I need to keep those calories high.
I would like to go back to yoga more often, but DH works 12 hours a day so nobody can watch DS.
Hello, Body Twin!
I've heard that this happens to a lot of people our size. I was 5'1", 112 lbs, size 4 petite and gained 60 pounds. My LO is going to be 7 months old on November 4th, and I have 18 lbs to go. I felt like my body just "flipped out" during pregnancy, and there was nothing I could do about it.
I had to ease back in to working out because I ended up on bedrest the last month, then had an emergency C-section. For the first 6 weeks post-partum, I just "wore" my little guy and went for walks. Then, I did yoga/pilates for a while... I tried running early on, and I still weighed too much and killed my knees.
I got back into really running 4 months after he was born, and the weight is coming off steadily.
One of my co-workers is around my height (maybe a little taller), 110 lbs and a size 0, and she gained 60 pounds with each of her pregnancies. She has three kids and lost all the weight every time, but it took her a full year. I think I'm in the same boat she is...
Mac and cheese lover!
I was 5'2", 115 when I got pg which was a few pounds above my usual happy weight. I gained 30 pounds by 36 weeks (so not as much as you have but I completely agree that your body just takes over and much of it seems like it happens regardless of how you eat, etc.)
I dropped about 18 pounds by 2 weeks, 28 pounds by 4 or 5 months, and was back at pre-pg weight by 6 months. Honestly, I did work out some but my LO was a craptastic sleeper so I really didn't have much energy or time once I went back to work full time. A lot of it was just time, trying to eat somewhat reasonably, and BFing. BFing was not a miracle pill for me but if I ate like I eat not while NOT BFing I definitely would not have lost any weight. I'm going to need to tighten up my eating when I wean soon.
GL! If a lot is water, it will come off fast!
I gained 60 pounds with my pregnancy and lost it by about five months postpartum. The first 20 came off quickly, the rest more slowly. By eight months postpartum, I was 10 pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight and maintained. I'm 5'8" and a size 4-6.
A combination of watching calorie intake, cardio, and lifting weights is what will get you there the fastest and keep you there.
