Success after IF

I have horrible sleeper!

Last night we were are the end of our ropes with LO and his sleep.  While he has always gotten up several times over night, in the last several days he has been very hard to put down (like and hour of my trying to rock him to sleep with no results) and up for hours at a time over night.  We have never been able to just put him down to sleep, we have always had to rock him to sleep and transfer.  Tonight we start ferber and I am praying it works because this is just miserable.  I just want my poor baby to get some rest!

  • any chance he is teething?  i know that can affect a LO's sleep too.  regardless, i hope your sleep training works.  a rested family is a happy family!

  • Ferber was a God-send for us.  Jacob was waking several times a night and not going down easily either.  We were all (including Jacob) sleep deprived.  We did it around 5ish months and he has been a great sleeper ever since.  It has literally been YEARS since he's been awake in the middle of the night for no reason (obviously, things like teething or sickness can throw him off).

Good luck with sleep training!  I hope it works wonders for you like it did for us.

  • DS was a horrible sleeper.  I cant give you any advice because we tried everything and he didnt start consistenly sleeping through the night until he was 2!!!!

But I will say, it eventually gets better.  I know how miserable it is to be exhausted but someday he will sleep!  And you arent doomed with future children.  DD was an amazing sleeper as a newborn.  She had a few months of poor sleeping habits (months 5-8) but has recently gotten back on track.  So much better than DS!

  • I agree w/ others.  Both of mine got their first tooth around 5/6 months.  That being said, DS1 did not STTN until 15 months (18 months consistently) and STILL wakes up on some nights and he's almost 2.5.  However, NO ONE I know has a sleeper like him so hopefully you will have better luck!
