Bleeding/Clot-Freaking out!!!!!

So last night I had bright red blood when I wiped.  Called the doctor and she told me to lay down for a couple hours.  She said unless it got heavier don't worry and call my doctor on Monday.  So today I have been having brown blood today when I wipe and one time even saw tissue/clot in the toilet.  Am I miscarrying?????  It's not implantation bleeding, as I am too far along.  Any idea?

  • It doesn't necessarily mean a miscarriage. I would go to the er if you are really worried, it gets worse, or you have cramping.  My thoughts and prays are with you.

  • The brown blood is from yesterday.  Call the doctor on call and see what they say.

  • Call your doctor and if you can't get a hold of him/her, then I would go to the ER.  Better to be cautious.

  • Brown blood is always old blood but the clotting is very worrisome. I'd call your doctor again asap. T & P your way.

  • I had a lot of clots and bleeding in my pregnancy with Gabe that was caused by a partial placenta previa.  There are a lot of things that cause clots.  You do need to call the doc asap though, and if you can't get advice from the on-call, go to the ER.  Worth it for the reassurance if nothing else.

    Thinking of you.

  • I know it is super scary but don't freak out! I had completely normal pregnancies the first two times around and then last time AND this time went through the same you are going through. While there is a chance that something could be wrong, there is an even better chance that things are fine and worrying wont change it. I got even more scared this time around when it happened to me than I did last time because I passed some rather large clots and bled a lot. I was afraid to even see the ultrasound but I went to the doctor and got is checked out and did a lot of research or my own online. This all happened when I was about as far along as you. I spotted for about a month and guess what? I'm almost 20 weeks now, the bleeding is gone, the problem healed and the baby is normal and healthy! Just take it easy and listen to your body, but remember it's not over until it's over. I hope everything turns out well for you. :)
  • I've not read the whole thread so this may be repeated info.

Don't worry too much!  The initial red blood wasn't 'flowing' blood it was when you wiped.  The brown blood was old blood and not fresh at all so really you had just a single small bit of blood.  The small amount of blood discolors all the fluids to make it look like a lot of brown blood

You are far too far along for it to have been implantation bleeding but it isn't uncommon for a woman to have a small bleed.  It could be from the placenta easily enough.  Just take it easy, drink your water, then go in and let the OB reassure you!

ETA: I missed the bit about the small clot but it's still likely really, really okay.  I lost a ton of blood with huge clots during my pregnancy with Ophelia.  It was horrible and I was certain for hours it was a miscarriage but it wasn't.  It was a loss of some of the layer of the uterine wall.  I lost like 20+ clots some of them palm sized!

  • Blood that has been sitting will clot. It's supposed to do that. Meaning. Old brown blood with clots is likely just old clotted blood. Red blood with clots is more worrisome. I have a polyp that bled almost weekly for about 10 weeks (up to 16 weeks). Worse each time. The last time it happened it was gushing bright red with clots bc I had been sleeping and the blood pooled inside, started clotting, and when I woke up, rushed out. No cramping is a really good sign. If you are uneasy call the off hours nurse or go to the ER. But, after a lot of experience with blood, it stopped (brown is the rest coming out), and with no cramps, it really likely is ok :)
  • I had bleeding and cramping at 11wks and was dx with a Subchoronic Hematoma during my ER visit. I know other moms who were dx with a sch later on too. I would call your doc again or just go to the ER. If it's a sch you need to be on pelvic rest at least and bedrest if possible. Drink lots of water and good luck!
