Cleaning "schedule" - do you have one?

I'm just curious if any of you organized (anal like me) mom's out there have a schedule for house stuff...e.g. Mondays - change the bed linens, Tuesday's - dust & vacuum, Wednesday's - toliets, yadda...

I do NOT have one, but thought it might be a good idea to at least "target" some sort of schedule to keep me on track better.  I'm a horrible house cleaner for sure. If there is some logic behind why you do things on one day vs another (or the order) please feel free to explain...and make me not feel so anal for thinking about it this hard :-)

Re: Cleaning "schedule" - do you have one?

  • I don't follow one, but I see them in Real Simple all the time.  Things like "15 minutes" per room per day, etc.  I'm sure they have them on their web site.

  • Fly lady does something like that. Google her. The only thing I schedule is emptying trash and fridge/freezer cleanouts. So that trash doesn't stink up my garage. Laundry is done daily around our house because of my husbands work. Everything else is when I get to it.

  • Laundry day is Sunday. Other than that, we're pretty loosey-goosey with everything else. DH cleans the kitchen every day and I do the deep clean about once a month. DH also tends to vacuum and clean the upholstery about every other week.

Our main issue is bathrooms. I'd rather just take a sledgehammer to them than clean them.

  • I am one of the most uptight, rigid housekeepers I know and I do not keep a schedule.  It's pretty much, if I see it and it needs to be done, I do it.  I do a little something every day.   My rules are: I do not go to bed if the kitchen needs cleaning (all of it, dishes, wash the counters, tables, sweep, spot clean the floor), the playroom gets cleaned every night, and the living room picked up.

Every morning I  make the beds, wash the sinks and spot clean the bathrooms.   Laundry gets done as needed.  Laundry folding is one of the only chores that piles up because I hate it.

I vacuum once a week, but not on a set day.  The only real scheduled thing is emptying all the trash containers and cleaning out the fridge on Thursday nights for Friday garbage collection.

  • flylady.net I use to use this site a few years ago and it is GREAT!  Then I hired a cleaning lady because I wasn't able to do everything since I worked from home. But I just joined FLYLADY again to help keep me organized more.
  • I do b/c I have to. I need a schedule so I can fit in cleaning with work, the boys, 2 dogs and a husband

    Sunday - change sheet, lanudry

    Monday - vacuum downstairs

    Tuesday - all the bathrooms

    Wednesday - vacuum downstairs

Thursday - dust upstairs and vacuum

Friday - dust downstairs and really clean the hardwood floors

Saturday -  make up anything I didn't do during the week.

This is pretty much me too.  One thing I have started doing is spot cleaning the bathroom while the kids are taking a bath (no bleach or anything) but it gives them time to play and me time to clean while I can watch them.

    This part is me too!

I actually wrote out a schedule but I do better if I just do it as I see it. I assigned laundry folding to DH who likes it..ha!, but he doesn't always have time to get it done either.  I am also vigilant about the kitchen, but I definitely need a better system for vacuuming and cleaning the bathrooms. I don't feel this gets done often enough.

  • It is hard keeping our house clean but we try to keep it half way clean because it is harder to clean it when it is too far gone.  I pretty much have a chore list I follow which included items for DH because trying to keep the house clean why driving me crazy.  The goal is for us to do little by little so we don't spend my whole weekend cleaning.  During the weekend I want to have fun with my family and enjoy their company instead of trying to clean.  Here is my schedule:

Monday or Tuesday: DH strips and changes the sheets and towels (he strips the towels twice a week) and I wash linens and towels on Monday or Tuesday.

Wednesday or Thursday:  I wash everyones clothes.  I use free and clear detergent and wash EVERYONES clothes together which winds up being about 3 loads.  The goal is to have laundry put up by the weekend.

Friday:  I will clean the bathrooms or sometimes every other Friday depending on how bad they are.

We pretty much vaccumm as needed which is usually once a week.  Also everyday we make up the beds and try to tidy the bedrooms before we leave for work.  The kitchen gets cleaned everyday because we pretty much live in the kitchen daily.

     I hope this helps.

I do this too.  I use MOSTLY use non-chemical cleaners so I can get stuff done while they play or bathe.  And as soon as they are done, I wash out the tub.    My husband thinks its crazy that I clean the tub every time, but that ring builds up.  Its not like it magically appears after 5 baths!

Ha! This. I usually crazy clean when we are having company. ;) I try to do laundry throughout the week. I do wash our sheets twice a week but, only because I am a freak about not having loose fitting sheets. Other than that with hardwoods I am constantly fighting the dust bunny war. Seriously where do they come from. I HATE to clean bathrooms so I have to make myself do them each week.
