DIY Soap/body wash and shampoo?

What do you all use? I'm having trouble finding a body wash recipe that doesn't involve castille soap - it's so expensive. I've read a lot of shampoo recipes that are basically baking soda and water, but wouldn't that be kind of abrasive to use on your hair? Thanks!

  • I'm looking for a body wash recipe too so will be interested to see what people post.

As for the Baking Soda, I've been doing it for a month. You just rub it into your scalp and just gently. No need for scrubbing or anything. It works wonderfully though I also use ACV for a conditioning rinse. It leaves my hair softer and easier to comb. Doesn't smell of vinegar once it's dry.

  • The baking soda to water ratio is low so it's not abrasive.  I will say that I had dyed my hair a while ago and there's still a little color at my ends and the baking soda wash has made it more blonde than it was before...if that makes sense.

  • I love the Minty Morning Body Wash recipe in The Handbook of Vintage Remedies, but it does use castile soap.  I buy Dr. Bronner's Baby castile soap online.
