Suspected TIA (mini strokes) to MRI or not to MRI?

I am 14 weeks pregnant, and last week, I had problems with blind spots in my vision, numbness in my right hand, and trouble coming up with the right words during conversations (i couldn't think of the words "chicken noodle soup," and "umbrella" among others.) My doctors first thought i was having a migraine with aura, but there was no headache, so now they're thinking it was a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) and now, along with blood tests they want me to have an MRI. I know these aren't particularly recommended during pregnancy, and have heard some people say that MRI's have no affect on the baby, and have seen other sources say that they could damage the baby's hearing... what are your thoughts or experiences? Please help!

  • I think if your DR is worried about a TIA that you NEED to get a MRI. I know there are risks with them but ask them if they can wrap your belly before hand.

  • Jesus, TIAs are serious precursors of a stroke. TIAs don't normally show up on an MRI (hence the transient aspect), but it's something that you need to take VERY SERIOUSLY. Do you have high blood pressure or heart conditions? You should really, really get a full work up for this. And yes, if it were me, I'd be getting an MRI, CT, echo, every.single.thing. Seriously... you don't want to stroke out during delivery.
