C-sections

I had a question about c-sect?

As a first timer and just starting out, I haven't seen my dr yet. Appt is scheduled for w8d3. I was wondering if you can ask to have a c-section? I thought this would be the best board to ask. Thanks!

Re: I had a question about c-sect?

  • You can ask. The likelihood that an elective c/s would be covered by your insurance is slim to none since it is more expensive and requires a longer hospital stay.

    Why do you want one?

  • You could ask, but I don't know why you would choose that route. Having a c/s is NOT the easy way out. It's major abdominal surgery and recovery is more difficult than for a VB, not to mention the risks are higher.

  • I was born with a heart condition and had surgury at a day and a half old. Being so, my heart works harder than the average person's does already (just walking around a track gets it up to 200 bpm). I was thinking that being in labor would make it increase tremendously, and depending on how much, my heart could fail.

Scary! I would also be concerned about effects of anesthesia and whatnot as well though. Sounds like you could have a tough time either way you go. Good luck, momma! I hope everything goes well for you!!

  • In that case I would ask what he recommends.  I would also ask what your heart Dr recommends too.

I'm sure your OB will take your medical history into account and discuss what would be your best option.  You should definitely ask about it at your first appointment.  GL.

I totally agree.  A major surgery also puts a lot of stress on your body/heart.   Your OB and cardiologist will have to work together to determine what type of delivery is best for you and baby.    Good luck to you!!!!

  • YES U CAN! i did, and im getting an elective c-section. my OB said its my body, my choice. talk to ur OB immediately! if u have concerns about how to give birth, ask now and ask how asap, otherwise it will eat at u and cause undue stress. I dont know ur particular situation, so u definitely wanna share how u feel with ur OB and have him answer ur questions. AND if u want one, dont listen to these bitchy ladies on here who will try to make u feel bad about it and make sure u choose an OB who will let u decide! im on babycenter.com also and there's a bunch of supportive ladies on there who can give u the info u need to feel PROPERLY INFORMED. I have noticed a lot of ladies tend to give misinformation about c-sections to serve their own messed up agendas. No one dares to judge women for having IVF procedures! ur not judged for how the baby gets IN there, and u damn sure dont deserved to be judged for ur choice about how u get the baby OUT!

Pretty much.  It's the most debilitating condition I've been in.  In horrible pain, medicated and not able to care for my new child.  With your condition you should just ask your dr how it will affect your labor and delivery.  My BP went crazy during the c/s and they had to give me something to keep me from passing out.  Then something else to level it back down.  A surgery might not be the best solution for a heart condition either.

You sound exactly like the kind of person someone looking for information should NOT listen too. And by the way you "spell" I wouldn't take any advice from you, your spelling makes you look very unintelligent.

EDIT: I remember you...you are a troll. Why you troll the c-section board is beyond me.

No one is being biitchy (other than you) or trying to make the OP feel bad. Go back to babycenter!

It's a troll! The only posts it comments are c-sections (which it's obviously never had) and adoption? It needs to go troll babycenter and go to someplace where they accept trolls.

  • I don't know if it depends on your state or not, but I asked my OB about an elective c-section, and she told me they are obligated to give me a c-section if I ask for one because it is considered a safe procedure.  I would absolutely raise my concerns about giving birth to both the cardiologist and the OB and see what they say.  They are probably not going to tell you what to do, but give you as much information they can about the possible complications of both so that you can decide.  That's what they did for me.

I also made sure I called both my health insurance and disability insurance companies ahead of time to ask about coverage for elective c-sections.  Both of them cover the same, regardless of manner of delivery.

And recovery from a vaginal birth is NOT always easier and faster.  Perhaps for most, but not for some of us.  Don't let anyone make you feel bad for being concerned about your own health.

Agreed. And in the meantime I would try meditation exercises to help keep the heart rate lower.
