My DD is one month old and has had a terrible time with feedings (nursing) since birth. She was Dx with reflux and put on prevacid (ds had severe reflux 3 years ago) because we wanted to be aggressive with it as DS ended up with chronic feeding issues. Things did not improve with meds so I kept looking for another reason. I suspected a posterior tongue tie, and asked 2 different pediatricians if she could have this. Both said no. I finally saw an international board certified lactation consultant who identified a posterior tongue tie immediately. She called an ENT for us and got us in for a snipping the same day. We came home and DD comfort nursed to sleep for 45 minutes for the first time ever (she had never nursed for more than 10 minutes before). She is already less fussy, and eating better. It can take a couple of weeks to see full results since she is an older infant to have this procedure- she has to retrain her tongue.
Always go with your gut mommies... You know your baby. Get the answers you need and don't worry whose toes you step on.
Re: trust your instincts...
Go Mom! Good for you for following what you knew was right!
And is she able to be off the meds now, too?
