anyone have a rec on where to go to get this done (south)? apparently my cars windows are too dark and so they didn't pass inspection. (even though they have the last two years????) ughs. i swear, if it isn't one thing, it is another.
i still had to pay this place - and have to go back there in 15 days with it fixed to pass (free second inspection). ridiculous. we inherited the car from dh's great aunt who lived in oklahoma. apparently there is not a regulation in OK for this...
The problem is, it costs 2x as much to have it peeled and re-applied. DSS has gotten three quotes on having his done bc his current tint is peeling and he wants it darker. Quote for a mid-size coupe- $220-250 from Best Buy, Mothers and some other custom shop on S Lamar.
DH and I had ours done at Audio Outlaw in Buda, but I don't imagine they'd be that much cheaper.
I'd find a "better" place to get it re-inspected. There's a shop on Manchaca N. at Burkett, next to 7-11 that may help.
This won't help as cold as it is outside right now, but when they told me my tint was too dark, I rolled down the windows and went to the place down the street. It passed.

There is a place on the east side of I35 and Oltorf called Da Shade. No joke. My husband made a bet with his boss that he could get the windows, on his company truck tinted for less than what his boss was quoted. They have taken all the company trucks in Austin there. I should mention my husband is pretty picky.

I would still try to take it to another place. Or at least call another place and see if they will do it. I had something similar happen to me, but they were nice enough to give me a heads up and not charge me. They said their guy was a stickler about it. I had even BOUGHT the stupid car at THAT SAME dealership that was going to fail me?! I've never had a problem with it since... I always take mine to Firestone.
If you want to go and get it redone I recommend Sal's House of Tint in San Marcos. He's friend of my DH's and does great and fast work. We got DH's car done this summer. 757 8716
