We went in today for a well baby visit (I was late for the 15 month) and I brought up my concerns about our eval at EI and A still not talking or walking. He just barely said Dad with purpose yesterday and today. Well it turns out his head circumference is larger then normal for his age and was at the last visit too. It is in proportion with his body size though. 28 pounds & 34 inches long. Well he suggested we see a neuro to get a X-ray and possible MRI to rule out anything neurologically related.

I'm a RN so my mind is going wild. I'm staying away from google but could use some support here. Thanks in advance

Re: T&P needed pedi suggested we see a neurologist today
I'm sure the doc is just CYA. I'll bet everything's just fine and he'll do stuff when he's darn ready to...
There are all kinds of stories about kids who barely talk at age 2, etc. I know my uncle didn't really say anything until he was almost 3. And my kid didn't walk until 14 months, and it was a very sudden thing.
But rather than worry over it, at least you can rule things out this way.

Ok, before you get all kinds of crazy, look at yourself, DH and your family. Do you have a big head? Do any of these other people have big heads? If so, perhaps you have a kid with a big melon. I have a big head, DH has a big head, my 7-year-old nephew has a big head (he has injured 2 children at day-care, one needing stitches because they colided with the big head), and Michael has a big head. When the nephew was 8 months, the doctor freaked out my SIL with he would need all these tests. I did a developmental screening test on him (psychologist) at the house and even with my personal bias, it was fairly normal. They just happened to see the pediatric neurologist from their practice at their next doctor's appointment and his response to her questions about it was "You got a big head so your kid has a big head."
Your son may be talking more than you are giving him credit for. Diction is not important until he is 3 so listen carefully to his babbles. He may be using more words but because they do not sound exactly right, you may not be counting them. Michael's speech has just gone crazy in the last month and a half.
So, stay away from Google, watch his other parts of development (walking, eating, social activities) and breath. Insist on a Pediatric Neurologist for the evaluation because he may have a problem and he may just have "a big ol' head."
What VanVerth said!!!!
Take deeps breaths - that would be scary. Hoping you get an appt asap so you don't have this hanging over you too long!
I'm hoping that everything is OK with your LO. I can understand your fears, however.
I'll just say this, I didn't walk until I was 17 months old. My DH didn't walk until 18 months. So 15 months is still in the normal range.
As for speech... DS does have a language delay (though after 10 weeks in EI he's doing much better) and I can understand the concern there. Hopefully it's "just" a language delay and nothing more.
Hang in there!!!!!

Vanverth cracked me up!
rsrn02 - T&P that it is nothing and your son just has a large head! My DH has a friend he calls "Big Head". May your son earn the same lovely moniker.
I am sorry for your worry, but completely understand. All you want is a happy, healthy baby and when a dr gives a referral like that it can be scarey. In terms of walking...does your son crawl, cruise or sckooch? Can he pull himself up on things? What age did he start doing those things, maybe he's just a late bloomer, maybe he won't do something until he can master it. My son didn't crawl til he was 9 or 10 months old and just started cruising at a year. He didn't walk without assistance until about 15 months.
As for talking, when they first start, it's really hard to make anything out...it just sounds like jibberish. All of the sudden you will figure out what he is babbling about. It might be an idea to get his hearing checked to make sure the language delay isn't due to a hearing issue. FWIW, my LO turns 2 next week and he only really started talking about a month and a half ago. Now he picks up new words everyday. By comparison, my neice had a 50 word vocabulary at 1 yr and at 18 months can speak in sentences (I don't like that) and say multisyllable words like Thanksgiving and Gymnastics.
Bottom line is, most likely your lo is fine. Every kid is different, try not to worry. Hopefully you'll get into the specialist sooner rather than later and can get your worries laid to rest. GL.
