Re: POLL: Education

  • I have a Bachelor's in Finance.  Sometimes I wish I had done Marketing or Accounting...the work I do isn't really finance related at all.

I would LOVE to go back and get an MBA, but the time and money just isn't there right now.

  • MBA.  No regrets.  I got a lot out of the experience, even if I don't really need the degree to do what I do now.   I have no desire to go back to school, ever.
  • I am currently enrolled to acheive a BA in Psychology.  I want to move on to Human Services to become a Social Worker or Domestic Violence Advocate.
  • MBA - no regrets at all, I am so glad I did it.  Now, I doubt I would have gone back if I would have had a family.  sometimes I think about going back, but there is really no point.
  • MPA and I think I'm done.

Sometimes I wish I chose a more lucrative field, but I can make more $ depending on the organization I choose to work for. So while I'm doing great now, if I want a change, I may have to take a decent pay cut even though I have a masters.

  • I have a Masters in Counseling, but am currently an Operations Analyst for a large Child care corporation...hate that I'm not using my degree to it's full potential, but the pay is too nice here! I would love to get a PHD, because I enjoy going to school and would like to teach college courses someday, but with a baby and hopefully more kids someday that might be down the road...maybe I could be the oldest college graduate!!!

I sometimes regret getting my Masters because I'm still paying off school loans 2 1/2 years later and maybe I wouldn't have to work full time we didn't have school loans...but everything happens for a reason...

  • Masters. I am glad I went to grad school, but there is no way I could have done a PhD (much to my prof's disappointment....he wanted me to stay on SO badly).

  • JD.  No regrets getting the degree, but I wish I had worked for a few years in between college and law school (I went straight through). I have no desire to go back to school.

  • Bachelor of Science.  Four years ago I was looking at grad programs and very close to applying but decided to wait.  My employer would have paid for it and it was just DH and I, so time wouldn't have been as big of concern.  I'm glad I didn't... I would want the time commitment now, or the feeling like I need to use it if I wanted to be home more.
  • BBA in Finance and I have 12 hours left for my MBA but I don't think I will ever finish it.  It won't advance me right now and I don't have the time.  Maybe someday...
  • Master's in Healthcare Administration.

No regrets.  I love my job, and there will always be positions in healthcare.

  • MBA and I'm so glad I did it before I had a family. I have a little desire to go back to school but I'm not sure what for plus I'm not sure how I'd find the time. I love learning and enjoy the atmosphere. My dh is applying now for an add on degree so he can be a prinicipal one day.
  • BA in Communications.  I don't regret it and would eventually like to go back and get a Masters in HR management.

  • Masters in Nutrition.  I'm glad I got it, however, it is kind of a waste, since it is not required for my current job and I'm not compensated for it.
  • Bachelors in Journalism

    MBA

I want to go for my Doctorate so that I can teach college, but that is a long time away.  My husband works for higher education, so I got my MBA for free.  That is the only way I would get my doctorate.

  • I have an MA and I'm working on my PhD, but it's probably going to take a bit longer now that the baby is here. Thankfully I don't need it for a job, so I can take my time with my qualifying exams and dissertation. (course work is done!)

  • I have a Master's in Psychology.  I wish I would have paid off more of my student loans prior to becoming a parent.  I'm happy I got the degree though!
  • i have a bachelor of science is history education and am currently working on a masters in educational administration. if i had my way i would never have done the masters program, but it's required to get the higher degree for teachers so i'm doing it. the pay increase doesn't hurt, but i hate school and would rather be home with ds.

dh on the other hand is a super over-achiever and has a ph.d. blech. :P

  • JD.  no regrets.  i'm glad i got my ed before starting a family.  dh, on the other hand, had an interest in getting his MBA, but w/ dd, that desire's been put on the back-burner.
  • JD.  Only regret is that I went to such an expensive school.
  • PhD. ?No regrets, don't want to do more unless it's in another field entirely.
  • MD. No regrets and I feel like I am always learning - no need for more formal education.
  • Bachelors in Communications.  I LOVE school so I would love to go back, but there is no reason to do it at this point.  A higher degree has no effect on my earing potential, so I will do it when we can afford it.
  • I have a law degree and a masters in law.

I think that's about right, I wouldn't want to do a PhD. Too much undirected work :-)?

  • A masters in education...So glad that  I did it before DD was born.  It is the only pay raise i will probably see. :)  don't really want to go back right now, maybe once kids are grown up.

  • Masters.  I regret that I went to such an expensive school, and that I'll be paying it back for a very long time.  I love school though, and would keep going if I could afford it.
  • Wow! We're quite an educated group :) That's a lot of PhD's and MBA's. I have my Master's in Ed- not my first choice (would've loved anthropology) but it works for my career path at this point. It's tempting to go further, especially b/c I work for a university and tuition is about 75% discounted. But I don't want to pursue straight education- I'd rather combine my work experience thus far w/ law or policy.

  • I'm an MD.  I wish I wouldn't have paid out of state tuition, but otherwise I'm very happy and feel NO need for more education!
  • I have a Master's in Public Administration. I was in grad school when I met dh and graduated about 6 months after we got married. So, kids were not it the picture yet. No regrets, and I will NOT be going back. I don't have the time to get everything done that I need to now, don't want to add grad school to the table. Plus, at this point, I would be looking at a doctorate and the only thing I could do with that in the Public Admin field is teach and I would probably have to relocate. I am not doing that.
  • Wow - you guys are impressive.  I just have a BS in Accounting and a CPA.  I always think about getting a masters or PhD so I could teach college courses, but I haven't had a bit of free time since I started my career and now with kids, I doubt I'll find any free time.  At the end of the day, it wouldn't advance my earning power, so I can't justify the cost either.
  • I have a masters and I'm taking classes towards additional certification.  No regrets at all.  I'm considering a doctorate (one day).  I just can't wait to be done with my present schooling then maybe I'll go back later on in life.

  • you ladies rock..NO regrets--I have a BA and post grad certificate.  I begin a Master's program that my co pays for in January.  After grad school that will be it in terms of schooling though.

I'm taking a credential exam in May and you have to stay updated to keep it...I've wanted to do some public speaking and I have my first small paid speaking engagement coming up!

My CHRO teaches undergrad one night a week and I would love to do that in the future.

  • I have my master's in accountancy.  No regrets at all! I love my field of work.
  • Master of Education, currently working on my PhD, I will finish next year (if I can stay off the bump, lol)!!!
  • BA in French Literature.  Don't think I will ever go back.  Work in technology sales and make good money.
  • I have PhD in cell biology and no regrets here.I was doing research in academia but the pay sucked as a postdoc. Now I'm working for Pharma as a writer and I love it. I've always wanted to do an MBA but now I dont see a need for it plus I dont know how I'd find the time :)
  • masters currently working on doc....i always knew i would go on to get a doc....but i had to take a 5 year break after finishing MA i needed to LIVE
