My inlaws have offered us a wooden bassinet that is old--my MIL used it in 1956.
I honestly have no idea if it's safe or not. Part of me thinks if it's just a wooden bassinet, then if we add a new mattress it's fine, since the designs probably haven't changed. . .but part of me is just scared, since it's old.
Would be happy for any opinions--thanks!
Re: anyone offered an older family bassinet?
Here are some crib safety tips you could use to evaluate the bassinet: https://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/5030.html
You could measure the distance between slats to see if it measures up to contemporary safety standards. Personally, I'll love to have a sturdy bassinet so long as the basic safety standard were met & if I could find a snug-fitting mattress to go with it!
