So we're hoping to move maybe next weekend (fingers crossed our closing date is next week) so I'm going to call and book the movers. We've never used a moving company before and are only using them for big things-beds/dressers/tables/couches/etc (no boxes-we're moving those ourselves and also have a POD). To get 2 guys is around $85/hr and 3 guys is around $110/hr. One company told me that 3 guys will get it done in about half the time of 2 guys (2 move the stuff, 1 loads the truck and pads the items)....the other company told me that 3 is "a waste of a man since it only takes 2 guys to move furniture". I'm torn as to what to do and DH said for me to decide. If you have experience with this at all, what do you recommend?? Thanks!
Re: Moving Advice
When I was single, my roommate and I had a team of 3 move us from one apartment to another. My roommate had very heavy, bulky furniture, and there were lots of stairs and narrow spaces in our new place (2nd floor of an old Victorian). It took them almost no time at all to get the furniture unloaded and into our new place, with only one ding on the wall (and that was due to her mammoth armoir that weighed a ton). It took all 3 of them to get it up the stairs.
So, if you've got a lot of heavy stuff going upstairs, then you'd probably benefit from 3, otherwise, 2 may be fine.
I am so paranoid about hiring a moving company when we move. I work in the mental health field in a program that places clients in their own apartments. As you probably know bedbugs is a huge issue right now. I will probably look for movers that are a little more expensive when the time comes for us to move. I am so afraid of using a less expensive moving co. that probably does a ton of moves for people in infested locations. I don't really know what the chances are of getting bedbugs from movers but I would imagine it happens.
Ok....sorry if I've scared you. I'm a little sensitive to the whole bedbug craze. I guess my point is just to make sure you use a very reputable co. And I think I would go with the 3 movers over the two.
