The whole thing should take you about 5 seconds to drink. Don't sip, chug. Start timing from when you start drinking. For the one hour test, it should be one hour before your appointment I think. Tell the person checking you in what time you drank it so they can put you in line for the lab.
Thanks!
One more. Can I eat before hand or do this on an empty stomach? I'm not going to chow down on Krispy Cream or anything but a sausage biscuit sounds good.
I should know this but blanking it on preggo brain.
My doctor said to eat normally. My test was at 11 and I ate both breakfast and a morning snack. I'd wouldn't carb load, but a breakfast taco wouldn't hurt.
Hmmm. My instructions we almost the exact opposite. I had to drink mine within 7-10 minutes, I believe, and then start counting from when I finished drinking it. Doc told me to start drinking it 45 min before my appt, because they wouldn't draw my blood right exactly at my appt time, but after check in, weigh in, pee-in-cup, bp, doppler, etc.
Also, I was told to fast before drinking it. I remember this specifically because it made me especially grouchy, because my appt wasn't until 1045 or something, and I couldn't eat or drink anything till 10am, and then it was only that nastyass headache inducing glucose drink.
Maybe make a quick call to your doc to see how they want you to handle it?
My Dr said to eat normally too. I did not chug mine, but drank it over like 3 minutes and then scheduled my lab work for one hour after I started drinking it.
I just did this yesterday - so we'll see if it all works out.
I seem to remember eating "normally" before this test during my last pg too and all was fine. Though this time I DID have decaf coffee w/ sugar and toast/jelly....who knows?
Weird. I was told to fast but if I had to eat something to eat something will no carbs/sugar and all protein like a hard boiled egg. I fasted and my level was still pretty high!
I was also told to drink within 10 min. When you go to the lab you can tell them when you started and finished and they can decide when to test you.
I was told to fast (which is why they got me in first thing in the morning) and to finish the drink in under 5 minutes. It really wasn't terrible at all, IMO.
I got the results during my appointment which was right after I took the test.
Well sh!t.
Ok so I literally took 3 bites of a sausage and cheese biscuit. It tasted yuk.
I drank my drink starting at 9:45am and finished exactly at 9:55.
I just checked in and told them my times and was all "ok" and went back to her screen.
I do remember saying it had to ge within 10 minutes before or after the drink so I think I'm ok.
I'll let y'all know what happens.
Btw, mine was red fruit punch and not too bad. Baby liked it, she's kicking like crazy!

When 3 Became 4

So it seems that the GD test procedures are changing. Out here, half the newly pregnant ladies were told to fast and the other half to eat normally.
It's up to your doctor.
Personally, I've never had my GD test blood draw done at the doctors office, so I don't know how to time that really.
I was at a lab and told to tell them when I checked in when I finished the dink. They usually want you to drink it in under 10 minutes.
I'd call the Dr office and double check. I hope you kept it in the fridge too, b/c that stuff is NASTY.

::butting in::
Will you get your results that day or do they call you with them later on?
