I know this might seem like a stupid question....but who actually performs the scheduled c-section surgery? Is it your doctor/ob? or someone at the hospital like a general surgeon? I know that one of my ob's is on call the day of my surgery. Thanks!
Your OB is a trained surgeon who will perform your surgery usually with the assistance of another OB, first assist, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or midwife.
My Ob does it with a team of surgery nurses. My practice has it where 1 of the OBs does the scheduled c/s during the week. Another one of the OBs is on call during the regular l&d patietns and emergency c/s.
It's the OB. You don't want a GS! It's funny because I actually just asked my brother, who is an OB, who would have done what during the surgery by showing him pictures of where all three OBs (I delivered at a teaching hospital and it's always an attending and 2 residents unless there is something crazy emergent) were standing from my personal c-section pictures. It was really interesting hearing him explain in detail what each person likely would have been doing.

Most people do not realize this.
I think it was The Business of Being Born that states that an OB is more trained to preform a c-section than they are to assist a vaginal birth. (I disliked that documentary but I *think* that is where I heard that).
