Hi ladies,
dd knows phonetics, letter recognition and sight reading. She has expressed the will to learn how to read home and in school. The daycare where she goes are doing a great job but they told me that they are not ready (syllabus and other issues) to teach her how to read but they were very willing to work/help me. I am wondering what books/websites/blog can help me achieve this. I am open to suggestions.
TIA
Re: Teaching to read
BOB books.
Hands down the best place to start. Easy reads and build confidence fast.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
get very easy to read books - and read with her... talk about the words- sounding them out... point to words when you read books to her ... talk about words you see in real life - on signs, etc...
reading is learned when a child is enveloped in literature of all kinds - at that age you don't need to "teach" it - you just need to foster it- and it will come as she is ready for it.
don't do anything formal - let her be a little kid while she still is one- she has plenty of time to be "taught" - just let her learn the fun way - but doing it with you, etc.

I agree! We have the BOB books also. And we started with those- but they make no sense! So much easier for children to read when they can follow the plot.
As a kindergarten teacher, I have a better idea for you for no money!
the internet has great books that you can just print for free...here are a few of my fav.'s
Be sure to ask questions before/during/after reading!
