I had my 38 week appointment today and the doctor couldn't find her heartbeat with the doppler, she tried for 10 mins and then eventually got the u/s machine and was able to see it so it turned out okay but omg it was the scariest 10 mins of my life especially since when she left the room to get the u/s machine she didn't even say anything and I was literally on the verge of a panic attack when she got back even though LO had just had the hiccups in the waiting room. I didn't think at this point there was really any room for LO to hide from the doppler but apparently she decided to play one last game of hide-and-seek and nearly give mommy a heart attack. I will be so happy when she is here, being pregnant is just too scary!
Oh and then the doctor made me feel totally awkward since the nurse had told me she would do an internal so to get undressed from the waist down and the doctor was like "Well I see you got undressed so I'm guessing you want me to check you even though I don't need to" I was like well the nurse told me to and thinking in my head I don't just like sitting around half naked for fun geeze!
Re: Almost had a panic attack at my 38 week appointment..
oh..i can only imagine what u felt those 10 min ...so glad everything is ok...baby is playing her naughty tricks already... and that remark in the end by the doc..ouch..must have been embarrassing
Dang I thought all the hiding abillity was behind me....Gabriel did that to us at 17 weeks and we had and emergency ultrasound.. Scared the crap outta me. Sorry little girl gave you a panic attack...
And lol on the Dr. comment. Yeah I would have been mortified too. But aren't they suppost to do internals at that point????
I know! I was like where the heck was she hiding because she had no room on the u/s but she managed it somehow. She must be a ninja or something.
Yeah most doctors start them at 37/38 weeks and at my last appointment they said they would do one this appointment but I've seen some people say that their doctors don't do them or don't do them until after your due date since they really don't give any indication of when you'll go into labor or anything but geeze HER nurse should know if she does them at 38 weeks or not! That's what I hate about going to a place with sooo many different doctors (they seem to have an endless supply since I always have a different one) they are always saying conflicting things.

It really doesn't. I actually think I am getting more worried rather than less like I thought I would be but part of that is because I have a very lazy LO and the less room she has the lazier she gets.
Well the doctor did end up doing an internal since I was already undressed so it wasn't totally pointless but I know really I mean does anyone enjoy talking to their doctor with their butt hanging out?
I was very close to it and I did start crying after she left the room. I know, I don't like this particular OB very much either and I think she may have just been doing something wrong because I don't see how LO could possibly have been hiding, though that is what the OB said and made it sound perfectly normal.

I don't know. I mean we could hear all the normal fluid noise it just wasn't picking up the heartbeat. I didn't think they could hide and especially seeing on the u/s how little room she had and I know she didn't move during the time the doctor went to get the u/s machine so I don't really know what happened the doctor was joking about her being a troublemaker and hiding and saying usually it's only boys that give her trouble. It didn't really matter to me at that point I was just so relieved to see her HB on the u/s.
I had the same exact thing at about 37 weeks. Although my ob was a little more reassuring than yours and told me over and over it was just her doppler because it wasn't making ANY sounds when it touched my skin. Same thing though-rolled the u/s machine in and found where the heartbeat was so she could use a different doppler to pick it up. I think when they are as smooshed as they are it can be difficult because their arms and legs are drawn up into their chests and if they are sideways at all, picking up the heartbeat can be more difficult.
Sorry you had to experience that.
OMG, that is scary!! I wonder how she was able to hide at this point!
Also, I totally would have snapped back at the doc and said that the nurse told me to get undressed!
