Re: are there any exercises that I can do while pregnant

  • Lots of prenatal yoga and lots of walking have been my main sources of exercise.

I was doing lots of hot yoga & running (half marathons) before I found out I was pregnant and I had a hard time trimming back my level of activity (but secretly somewhat relieved to take a break).

I believe for the most part you can keep up the level of activity you are used to but it's not really advised to begin anything new if it's strenuous. So personnally I wouldn't worry about toning your stomach. Soon you'll be loving your growing tummy!!

  • You could do planks to strengthen your whole core - google for video demos.  I found that helped keep my abs toned in those really early months, and my back strong to support that new weight as I got bigger later.

I also didn't want to have to worry about losing weight after birth, so I tried to eat healthy and remain active when pg and kept my weight gain steady & reasonable.  And don't worry about your post-baby body now...embrace the changes you are going through and be confident that you WILL get your body back afterwards, even if it takes a little while & some hard work.  Congrats on your pg!!

  • I ran until I was 38 weeks pregnant.  I just got too uncomfortable to continue.  However, I swam the whole time and rode my bike on the trainer the whole time.  I also maintained a strength routine as well to keep toned.  I also did prenatal yoga 2-3x/week.

You can pretty much do everything you did before becoming pregnant.  You'll want to stop with the ab workouts at some point, but everything else can be modified down.  You won't be able to workout at a high intensity, but you don't have to just sod around either.  The whole keeping your heartrate under 140BPM is a myth.  Just go by what you feel.  If' you're breathing heavily, sweating profusely, getting lightheaded, etc., it's probably wise to slow down or stop.

  • i was taking a PiYoga class when i became pregnant and my doc said it was safe to continue as long as a don't do any deep bending. He also said the elliptical was great for low impact cardio and if you can find water us it. most gyms have a water aerobics class and how the water takes pressure off your body is AMAZING! in my last trimester when i got into a pool i could move like crazy and didn't even feel pregnant!

  • I did yoga 2-3 times a week during my entire pregnancy. There were obviously things I couldn't do, but my instructor knew and always made modifications for me. I really think it helped my bounce back after birth.
