  Gav has one and plays it daily.  He loves it!  I've had issues putting new software on it but customer service has always helped us.  That being said, some of the newer handhelds look pretty impressive and we'll probably get him one of those for his birthday.

  I don't have the iXL, but was looking into them last x-mas.  I decided against the iXL for a couple reasons, the main reason being that everytime I saw them on display in the stores they were broke in one way or another and had only been released for about a month at that point.  I figured if they couldn't hold up being bolted down in the store, it wouldn't hold up to my kids very long.  There were some software issues as well, but I can't remember them now.  I went with the LeapFrog Explorer instead.  He loves his Explorer.  He also has a Nintendo DS that my sister bought him, but he prefers the LF Explorer hands down.  If I were buying something for this Christmas, I would buy the new LeapFrog LeapPad, not the old one from like 10 yrs ago.  They are generally priced around $99 right now, but I think we are going to see sales for these using coupon codes and such around Christmas for around $80.

  No experience with the iXL, but we got Charlie a Leappad for his birthday & we are pretty impressed with it so far. Granted it has only been 2 days & he only has 1 game for it (but it does come with a few apps as well) but I think it will last & grow with him for awhile.
