So lately when I talk to my MIL who is an OB nurse, we talk about how things up in L&D are going. They have been super busy the past few months, but I can't even begin to tell you how many c-section this hospital must do. I swear she will tell me every day that she works there are at least 3-5 c-sections and only 1-2 vaginal births (this on a busy day) but this is in a town where the population is only 51,000. So I asked her do they normally preform more c-sections than vaginal births in a day, and she responded with "for the most part...I've been in on a lot more c-sections lately than vaginal deliveries." In my head I'm thinking "you don't see anything wrong with this?!" But she just keeps talking as if it's completely normal. It makes me sad and angry all at the same time.
Re: C-sections in a small town
That really stinks. Hopefully, it's just that she's assigned to a lot of c-sections.
I think a large part of the medical community has blinders on. It's really frustrating. I really wonder what will turn the tide. Or do we have to wait 15 years for trends to reverse.
