2nd Trimester

Anyone considering VBAC? Why?

So I just watched a Nat Geo documentary on "The Womb" and then read a whole bunch of birth stories and it got me thinking....

This whole time I have been dead set on a RCS because my last one was SO easy.  I had an induction due to pre-e and then maxed out on Pit for 48 hours with two rounds of cervadil and 0, none, nada for progress.  My C-section was a dream.

Now this time, suddenly, I am unsure.

Re: Anyone considering VBAC? Why?

  • Your induction story was my induction story exactly due to pre-e... I could have written that.

I want a VBAC becasue I was only 34 weeks along at the time my daughter was born and to this day I still feel like she was taken from me...

She was in the NICU for 16 days because she was 3 lbs and could not eat...

I want the birth back that I planned to have in the first place...

If I cannot then c-section is fine but it really had an impact on me...

  • My induction turned csection was not a dream, at all. I am hoping to vbac because the recovery time is less and I had hoped for a vaginal birth with ds. But as we all know, our plans can go out the window when we are actually in the hospital. I would not be devastated with a csection if it had to happen, its just not ideal.

  • I had a c-section because my son was breech.  I had a wonderful experience.  My recovery was easy, and I think it might have been much easier than some of the vaginal birth recovery stories I've heard...  But I decided to try VBAC because we want another baby not too long after this one.  We'll see.

  • My csection recovery was easy peasy but the surgery itself was horrid.  I hemorrhaged on the table due to a placenta acreta and I was so scared and cold and knew something was wrong but not what.  I also didn't get to see my DD for the first 12 hours as she was in NICU and couldn't leave it.

We plan to have another pregnancy after this one and I really, really don't want 3 surgeries.  I will have a csection planned for 41 weeks but if labor comes naturally I will happily have a VBAC with my OBs blessing.

  • They won't let me do a VBAC.  I'm high risk and have too many complications.  My Perinatologist told me at the first appointment they wouldn't do one.

  • I have a heart shaped uterus which tends to make breech babies, thats why I had a cs with dd. But, if I get lucky and have a head down baby this time, I will happily have a vbac. My cs recovery went really easy, but I know I want at least one more baby and do not want to be cut open 3 times or more

  • I asked my OB for an honest percentage chance that she would give me for having a successful VBAC and her answer was "maybe 10%". Your first go around tells a lot about your body, I would ask my doc for the honest chances and see. It's not worth it to me to take a 10% chance and be miserable again.

Yeah.  I read on the board some last night.  However, obviously, that board is very pro-VBAC and I was looking for some varying opinions and reasoning.

  • Thank you all for all your responses.  I have PCOS and a higher risk of Pre-E and GD because of it.  So, I might discuss the possibility of a VBAC.  I think I will talk it over with my doctor and see what the calculated risk is for me and my child.  Either way, a healthy baby in the end is my goal.

    Thanks again!

  • I had a vbac with DS2, so I guess i'm technically having another. Second time around. If you have any questions i'd be happy to answer. I was pro-vbac my whole pregnancy with DS2. Then at 38 weeks I got impatient and said, "screw it, schedule my csect" because I was miserable, swollen, and just felt awful. 2 days before the scheduled c/s I went into labor. They gave me the choice and I said, well i'm here let's labor. But I was never closed to the option of having another c/s. If my labor didn't progress, I would have went for another c/s, no issue. But it went well, and my midwife was very attentive and on top of my whole labor, made it an enjoyable experience.

  • I wanted to try for a vaginal birth with DS but had to have an emergency c/s because he got stuck and was in distress.  It was difficult to recover and this time around I really want to have a VBAC.  My drs are in full support of me decision.
