I just found out I am pregnant and am very excited but freaking out a little. My first concern is finding a doctor. My PCP is out og MGH and always throught I would go to a OB there. However I live on the North Shore and my husband thinks I should go some place closer just in case. Anyone have opinions on hospitals and/or OB recommendations??
Thanks
Re: MGH vs Melrose Wakefield/Winchester
My OB is at Winchester OBGYN Associates, so I delivered at Winchester Hospital. I would highly recommend both.
Are you in Middlesex County though, or actually on the North Shore? If on the NS, I've heard Beverly Hospital is pretty good.
I used North Shore Physicians Group OBGYN in Swampscott and they were good. I delivered at Salem Hospital and I had a fine experience there too, I needed an emergency c-section and they were very attentive, all went quite smoothly. I have a genetic condition that requires very careful monitoring of any anesthesia and special anesthetic precautions, and I did not have any issues. They really seemed to know what they were doing.
At one point a few weeks ago I was hospitalized for several days at MGH due to bleeding and preterm labor--I went to MGH because I was right near there at the time and my doctor told me to go to the nearest ER. I liked L&D at MGH and asked if I could switch (at 34 weeks) to have my appointments there and deliver there. They basically said no, because I live in Lynn and with traffic the drive to MGH while in labor could be problematic.
