Eastside Daycares - Help Please

Do you know of any resources that I can use to find quality daycare facilities on the eastside?  I am doing research online and it's so hard to find a comprehensive list that compares across different features.  Of course, the price isn't listed anywhere, either.  Do I just need to start making phone calls?  Also, I am hoping to find a place that would offer part-time care (3 or 4 days per week), but I've heard this is next to impossible.  Is that true?  If you have any suggestions or recommendations I would really appreciate it.  I'm just not sure where to begin...

Thank you!

Re: Eastside Daycares - Help Please

  • Childcare.org is the place to go to get a comprehensive list.  Other than that I have used craigslist and google.

You will not find a comprehensive list which compares features....you probably have to make that yourself.  It is definitely easiest to just start calling places and asking about their prices, infant availability and waiting list.

The high end centers, like Bright Beginnings, will probably not have part time as an option, but there are plenty of other places that do provide part time care.  A lot of people who need part time care seem to have success with nanny share arrangements.

It's really important to visit several different daycares to get a sense of what is out there. Good luck!

This also seems to cover a majority of daycares as well in their reviews (since most also have preschools in-house). I looked a while back and was only able to find one woman's review of microsoft daycares...but it was already getting pretty dated at the time.

I've used care.com to find out nanny's...but in the last year, we've had three different women already, so "stability" can be iffy going on your own. And I only trust them because I'm working in-house. :P

  • I would try contacting king county childcare resources - www.childcare.org  If you call them, they can take some things about what you want (hours, age, etc) and find licensed daycares in the area you are looking for.  It lists prices and some other information.  If you call the service is free (then they email, fax or mail the results), but if you want to subscribe to their site it costs $.  It may be a good place to start - when I was starting to look, they were very helpful.  I didn't end up using the places listed (found a friend and a family member to watch the baby), but it was nice to get a listing.  None of the centers would take part time kids, which was a dealbreaker for me, but some of the in home people would.

    Good luck!

  • Where on the Eastside?  I researched a lot and know of a couple places.  I needed half time every day which was REALLY hard to find, especially for under one year. I think if you do a few full days a week it's easier.  I ended up bringing my daughter to someone's house.

I agree - calling in to King County Childcare Resource was helpful when I was getting started finding childcare. Not that I'm using them, but I also found in the area I was looking that La Petite would take kids part time while Kindercare doesn't do part time.
