DS was referred for EI today at his 15 month visit. The DR isnt to concerned about his level of activity per se when looked at alone but she is concerned about his impulsiveness + activity + early sensory feeding issues. He is extremely active even for a toddler, he has no fear when around
danger which has lead to some big falls (but thank GOD no serious
injury), he can not sit still for even a diaper change, wont sit to eat,
wont eat if there is anything else that catches his attention, getting
into cars is a struggle, I have to have him 5-point harnessed in shopping carts,
he is always on the harness when out walking, will NOT sit in a stroller, and the list goes on.
I am open to hear what the pros say but I am curious if looking back at your child, how early did they show signs of ADHD or Sensory Integration issues? Do you think this is being extremely pro-active or right on target to find it early and address it? If looking back you were referred earlier, would you have gone?
Thanks for any help or insight.

Re: ADHD/Hyperactive Moms-questions. Toddler referred for EI
My daughter started showing signs of ADHD when she started school at 4. She couldn't sit to concentrate on her letters/listen to a story. Her hands and feet were always moving a million miles an hour.
ETA- the older she got, the more glaring the signs were. So after a horrible first 6 months of 1st grade, we had her tested and started meds.
Thank you all so much for your stories! I realize that the Dx comes later so I am slightly skeptical to have him evaluated so early. He was super early in his physical milestones (rolled at 3 week, crawled at 5 mos, walked at 9.5 mos.) so I have always told myself that he can move but has no understanding of how or why. I think this is what the DR see when she looks at his impulsiveness.
Meds are NOT on the table at this point even if they are suggested (which I doubt at this young age) and I am hoping upon hope that he will outgrow some of these behaviors.
Thanks again for taking the time to respond. I really appreciate your time and effort :-)
DS was referred for EI at 18 mos old b/c of feeding/sensory issues. Since he had no serious learning delays, we weren't accepted into EI. So, just be prepared for that . You may need to go a private route.
At 3 y/o, DS was off the charts defiant. At 4 y/o he was very aggressive and impulsive, it caused huge problems in PS. It continued into KG and we sought behavior mod therapy, which I wish we'd done sooner. As his school work has become more difficult and he has less opportunities to pursue things on his own agenda, his focus issues have come to light. He's never been constantly on the go in the true hyperactive sense, but he cannot sit still in school. There is too much distraction going on all the time and as he's gotten older he needs more and more physical outlets each day. He's not full of never ending energy, but he's got to get some of it out regularly to be productive.
