I'm just kinda curious which way people decided and why. So, here is a quick poll.
1) Did you decide on cloth or disposable?
2) Do you work full-time, part time, or are you a SAHM?
3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care?
4) If you do cloth, do you: use prefolds or all in ones? launder at home or use a service?
5) Why did you choose cloth or disposable?
Re: A Poll about Diapers...
1) Did you decide on cloth or disposable? cloth
2) Do you work full-time, part time, or are you a SAHM? work full time
3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care? day care center
4) If you do cloth, do you: use prefolds or all in ones? launder at home or use a service? we use Fuzzibunz pocket diapers. We launder at home
5) Why did you choose cloth or disposable? mostly for environmental reasons, to be honest. but it also saves money in the long run.
I have a few posts about cloth diapering on Ellie's blog. Here is the first: https://ellierosedoyle.com/post/6622724299/hippy-alert-the-post-where-i-discuss-diapers
I'll also add that its not super easy to find a daycare center that allows cloth, although if you push them they should allow it. its really just as easy as disposable.

1) Did you decide on cloth or disposable? Primarily cloth, but some disposables for convenience at times.
2) Do you work full-time, part time, or are you a SAHM? Work PT (4 days per week).
3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care? We are lucky, DS is cared for by my mom and my MIL.
4) If you do cloth, do you: use prefolds or all in ones? launder at home or use a service? We did prefolds in the beginning, but eventually switched to the BG 4.0s (pocket diapers), when the ones with snaps came out. I do all the cloth diaper laundry at home.
5) Why did you choose cloth or disposable? Cloth for both cost savings and the environment. Disposable at night because well, it really just works the best for us even though I don't love the environmental aspect of it. Also disposables are available for the grandmas to use if they want to be out and about for a long time and not have to carry soiled cloth diapers with them. (I wish they would use cloth more, but I've found that if I don't supply disposables, they will just go out and buy them. So, oh well.)
2) Do you work full-time, part time, or are you a SAHM? Work FT
3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care? Nanny/in-home day care - Grandma watches him
4) If you do cloth, do you: use prefolds or all in ones? launder at home or use a service? N/A
5) Why did you choose cloth or disposable? I wanted cloth for the green/financial benefits, but I couldn't get DH on board. I didn't want to be the only one changing diapers, so I agreed to use disposables. I still wish we would have at least did a trial run with cloth, but in hindsight, (in our situation) it *may* have been for the better since we have extremely hard water in our condo and I'm not sure how that would have affected the diapers in the washing process.
Yup, this is what I'm finding around here.

1) Did you decide on cloth or disposable? We use cloth- BumGenius 4.0
2) Do you work full-time, part time, or are you a SAHM? I work full-time and have a home business (part-time-ish).
3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care? We use an in-home daycare. She was hesitant to use cloth at first because she thought it was still all about prefolds and pins. She agreed to try ours, and loved them from day one. She now says that she wishes everyone used them.
4) If you do cloth, do you: use prefolds or all in ones? launder at home or use a service? BumGenius 4.0 are pocket diapers (almost like all in ones, but with a removable insert that you can double up at night, and it needs to be removed before laundering). We wash them ourselves, which is REALLY not a big deal, but many people (who have never tried it) think it is.
5) Why did you choose cloth or disposable? All of our reasons are listed in this blog post. It was equally about the financial benefit and the ecological concerns in the beginning, but there are so many other reasons that we've discovered along the way.

Its funny, in Davis, all the centers allowed cloth. In Sac, both the places we are considering switching to do not allow them. One of them provides diapers so we may get ellie on the wait list there. And, in the future when I'm not as emotionally involved, I'll push to allow cloth. E is currently at a center in west sac (between sac & Davis) and they let us use cloth. She was the 2nd baby to have CDers, and there is currently another younger baby that uses cloth.

1) Did you decide on cloth or disposable? Disposable
2) Do you work full-time, part time, or are you a SAHM? SAHM
3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care? N/A
4) If you do cloth, do you: use prefolds or all in ones? launder at home or use a service? N/A
5) Why did you choose cloth or disposable? I think because Brian was our first child and we had/have very few friends with children we never really considered cloth diapering. There were so many other things I was consumed with I didn't give diapering too much thought.
Similar to the other post about prefolds and pins, I think this is why a lot of daycare centers won't allow it. I've talked to a few that were resistant, but said that if you brought them pre-stuffed pocket diapers or all-in-ones, they would allow a trial period to see if it worked out.
1) Did you decide on cloth or disposable? disposable
2) Do you work full-time, part time, or are you a SAHM? WAHM - part time
3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care? Neither - I work during nap times and at night.
4) If you do cloth, do you: use prefolds or all in ones? launder at home or use a service? n/a
5) Why did you choose cloth or disposable? there was no way that I was going to wash all those diapers. I already am doing about a load or two of laundry a day and the idea of having to deal with laundry and poop and pee on a daily basis was way too much for me to handle. (go ahead - judge away.)
1) Did you decide on cloth or disposable? Disposable
2) Do you work full-time, part time, or are you a SAHM? Work FT
3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care? Daycare center
4) If you do cloth, do you: use prefolds or all in ones? launder at home or use a service? n/a
5) Why did you choose cloth or disposable? We ultimately went with disposable. We live in an apartment and have to fight to use the washer and dryer in our complex because there are four washers/four dryers for 58 units and I didn't want to be waiting until late into the night to wash diapers several times a week. If I were a SAHM I could have made it work. We thought about trying a diaper service but it was double the price each month than what we pay for disposables. We are hoping in 3 or 4 years when we TTC #2 we will be living in a house and will be able to try cloth diapering. Our daycare accepts cloth diapered children so that wasn't an issue.

3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care? day care center
1) Did you decide on cloth or disposable? Disposablet
2) Do you work full-time, part time, or are you a SAHM? I work three days a week
3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care? nanny up til 18 months, now a preschool/daycare
4) If you do cloth, do you: use prefolds or all in ones? launder at home or use a service? N/a but I would have use AIO's, and launder at home. Most likely
5) Why did you choose cloth or disposable? I wanted to do cloth, Dh didn't , kept talking about the drought and extra water usage, so the environmental impact was not that clear cut, probably not any better than using the 'sposies, etc, I did hear the same from some environmental engineering types that it was more of a "six of one half dozen of the other" type of deal, with the increased cleaning and water, so I "folded" haha, pun intended. I still wish we had done cloth though, but you have to compromise with your partner. Of course now the water situation here in the E. Bay is better but always somewhat tenuous. At the time it was quite bad. ( think he may have just not wanted to do it too)
1) Did you decide on cloth or disposable? disposable
2) Do you work full-time, part time, or are you a SAHM? work full-time
3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care? in home daycare
4) If you do cloth, do you: use prefolds or all in ones? launder at home or use a service? n/a
5) Why did you choose cloth or disposable? convenience, easier to find a reasonably priced daycare
1) Did you decide on cloth or disposable? Cloth (we did use disposables when she was a newborn. We switched at 4 months. With Haley we will use disposables while she is a newborn and probably move her into the cloth at about 2 months or whenever the bg fit her well.
2) Do you work full-time, part time, or are you a SAHM? SAHM
3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care? N/A
4) If you do cloth, do you: use prefolds or all in ones? launder at home or use a service? We used pocket cloth diapers and launder at home.
5) Why did you choose cloth or disposable? Money. We have saved a ton and will continue saving through baby #2!
1) Did you decide on cloth or disposable? cloth
2) Do you work full-time, part time, or are you a SAHM? SAHM but start a part time job next week
3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care? daddy will be watching the kiddos
4) If you do cloth, do you: use prefolds or all in ones? launder at home or use a service? prefolds exclusively until they reach about 12lbs or so, then a combo of prefolds and pockets. We launder at home
5) Why did you choose cloth or disposable? A lot of reasons - the financial benefits, the environmental concerns, health reasons, and the cuteness factor :-)1) Did you decide on cloth or disposable? Disposable
2) Do you work full-time, part time, or are you a SAHM? SAHM
3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care? n/a
4) If you do cloth, do you: use prefolds or all in ones? launder at home or use a service? n/a, but I would launder at home
5) Why did you choose cloth or disposable? I honestly didn't give it much thought either, most moms I know use disposable. I remember thinking that with the amount of water and bleach I'd be using it wouldn't be a much different impact on the enviornment (I didn't know about the inserts at the time). After DS was a few months old I thought maybe with the next one we'd try cloth, we won't be. 2 under 2 will be challenging enough without adding an extra routine on top of everything.
1) Did you decide on cloth or disposable? Kid #1, disposable. Kid #2, cloth. Kid #3, cloth.
2) Do you work full-time, part time, or are you a SAHM? Work full time.
3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care? In home daycare center.
4) If you do cloth, do you: use prefolds or all in ones? launder at home or use a service? I use the Bum Genius 3.0 and 4.0
5) Why did you choose cloth or disposable? With #1, cloth wasn't very popular yet so I didn't get into the trend until baby #2. I still use disposable occasionally on #2 because he goes a lot during naptime and overnight. He can leak out of disposable overnight diapers so I have to make sure he's in something SUPER absorbant. Baby #3 we're starting on cloth now. She's 50/50 with disposable and cloth because I need to buy more cloth for her and I also received a bunch of disposables from my mom that I'm using up.
I like cloth, it's easy to use. Our trash isn't filled up with diapers. We noticed how much more trash we have when #3 came and we started out with disposables on her newborn. Everyone who has watched my kids find our cloth to be easy to use and don't mind using it.
1) We did disposable until 9 months then switched to cloth because we were spending $75 a month on diapers and that was the tipping point for me being able to talk DH into it.
2) SAHM & Full-time student (I am physically in class 25 hours a week, but physically at school (since I scheduled homework time in since I have EJ the rest of the time and thus wouldn't be able to do it otherwise) 10 additional hours a week, and I travel every other weekend over night for the forensics team.
3) We have arranged our schedule so that one of us is always with EJ and on Mondays when I am in class my mom is able to watch him for a few hours until DH gets off work.
4) Fuzzi Bunz Perfect Size Large which is an all in 2 type of thing (meaning diaper and insert) We wash at home, it is super easy.
5) We chose cloth according to DH for the cost and somewhat the eco-friendliness and I chose cloth because I wanted to be more enviromentally aware and the reduction in monthly expenses was just a big fat bonus. I am slowly getting DH to agree to more and more eco-friendly things in our home and he is becoming more and more open to it because he is seeing the reduction in expenses for us.

3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care? When the kids were little we used in-home, now center.
4) If you do cloth, do you: use prefolds or all in ones? launder at home or use a service? Started with KL0s and KL1s and now use BGs. Launder at home.

2) Do you work full-time, part time, or are you a SAHM? full time
3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care? in home (my MIL)
4) If you do cloth, do you: use prefolds or all in ones? launder at home or use a service? NA
5) Why did you choose cloth or disposable? We just thought it was easier and more convenient for my MIL.
Now I feel guilty! I really wanted to do this, but with going back to work thought it would be too hard. Hmm...maybe I need to give it a try now..
1) Did you decide on cloth or disposable?
With our first, we did cloth for the first year and a half, then mostly disposable. With #2, we did a mix of cloth and disposable, mostly because I couldn't handle adding full time diapers to an already obscene amount of laundry.
2) Do you work full-time, part time, or are you a SAHM?
I work part time
3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care?
I've had a nanny, sitters, and then preschool
4) If you do cloth, do you: use prefolds or all in ones? launder at home or use a service?
I preferred prefolds, but have several pocket diapers and a few AIOs. I had a service for the first year with #1 and then have washed my own from that point onward.
5) Why did you choose cloth or disposable?
Mostly environmental, partly because I wouldn't want to wear a paper diaper, partly because I wanted them to feel wet and PT sooner (which is a main reason that we always stuck with mostly prefolds as well).

1) Did you decide on cloth or disposable? Cloth (only about 20% of the time until recently...now (started a few days ago) we're in cloth for all but overnights...I can't figure out the best plan for overnights...scared of leaks still).
2) Do you work full-time, part time, or are you a SAHM? Still on maternity leave, but will work FT
3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care? Will be using a center. They've said they will not allow cloth, but I plan to convince them
(the director actually said it was a "permit" issue...which I don't buy since they have affiliates all over the Country, and their Davis affiliate allows cloth, and one of their out of state affiliates is recognized for being cloth friendly in the area. So I hope to eventually get them on board with cloth.
4) If you do cloth, do you: use prefolds or all in ones? We used prefolds until this week...we're in pockets (a variety, but mostly BG 4.0's) now. I launder at home and it has so far been easier than I thought it'd be.
5) Why did you choose cloth or disposable? My H's cousin used Bum Genius diapers 4 years ago when we visited them and I was instantly hooked for the environmental and economical benefit (especially when able to use them for a 2nd child). Now though, I love how they feel and fit him.
1) Did you decide on cloth or disposable?
Cloth
2) Do you work full-time, part time, or are you a SAHM?
SAHM
3) If you work, do you use a nanny, in home or center day care?
N/A
4) If you do cloth, do you: use prefolds or all in ones? launder at home or use a service?
Pocket diapers, launder at home. I use the sanitize setting on our (new, energy efficient) washer.
5) Why did you choose cloth or disposable?
Mostly to keep from throwing gobs and gobs of dirty diapers into landfills. Then I learned it was cheaper. I've also heard cloth diapered babies potty train faster, and I believe it. The only reason they bug me sometimes is fitting pants over them. Baby has a bulky bottom, but I've learned what pants I can and can't buy.
