DH just got a new car and I don't want to ruin the seats with DD's wet feet (the seats are almost suede like and she's rear facing, so if her shoes get wet walking to the car, the seats get wet). My seats are leather and I just wipe them down if they get wet. But I was looking at something like this for DH's car. Is this a no no in terms of carseat safety? I guess I could just put a towel over the back of the seat too, but this looks more "waterproof."

This. The center leather seat on my land rover is cracked to pieces from us tightening our carseat so much. I now have a thin mat under it. The carseat is in so well that it doesn't budge so I'm not worried about the effectiveness being reduced.
