2nd U/S 1 week Later??

I had my first u/s today (at approx 6 wkish) and my RE wants me to come back in a week to make sure everything is progressing. When I shared this with my sister, she immediately asked if something was wrong that they want to see me back so soon.

My response was that they do things differently in the IF world than at the OB's office, and even though this was a surprise BFP (not from a medicated cycle), I am still going to my RE, so they are monitoring me the same.

But now, I'm wondering...is it normal to go for a 2nd u/s one week later?

My first u/s is scheduled for 6w5d and they told me that I'd come back for another one around 8w...so basically a week later I guess. I do wonder why though...I almost wish I could go for the first one earlier and spread them out a bit! Smile

Thanks. I feel like I've seen others who have had u/s fairly close together. But of course, my sister's concern made me start to worry. Even though the NP I saw today said she was "pleasantly surprised" at how much we were able to see. I think, perhaps, I am going to worry about everything... Embarrassed

My RE always does ultrasounds at 6 weeks and again at 7 weeks. He wants to measure the baby to make sure your baby is growing properly.

Our RE did the same thing and our BFP was on a break cycle also. I actually had 4 U/S before my 12 week scan.

Perfectly normal with an RE. I had ultrasounds at 6w, 7w, 8w, and 9w before graduating to my OB. Had one with her at 11w then my NT scan at 12w.

Yes. It's fine! My RE said I could come back 1-2 weeks after my first u/s. My appt is closer to 2 weeks because I needed a specific time so DH could be there!!

Sounds normal to me. I had my first u/s at 6 weeks then again at 7 and 8 weeks with my RE! Once I graduated to the OB it feels like forever between my ultrasounds!!!

I had my first 3 u/s at 5.5 wks, 6.5wks, 7.5wks, and then every 2 weeks until our 12th week.

Sounds normal to me. From what I understand we have our first u/s Monday at five weeks, and I will be seeing them every week until week ten when I will hopefully graduate. Things are a little different in the IF world for sure.

Thanks everyone! Definitely feeling better after seeing the timelines of all of your early u/s. I felt confident with my response to my sister when I said it just different with an RE, but then of course began to question myself!

I'm going back for another one 10 days after the first. DH started googling about heart beats, and now he's freaking out that it was too low at the first u/s. His worrying gets me worried

I had one at 6w, 7w, 8w, 10w (I was out of town for week 9), and just had one on Tuesday with my OB at 10.5 weeks. I have my NT scan next wednesday at 11.5 weeks.

IF is much different than the real world. Your RE has to document a clinical pregnancy for the CDC Stats and they only count an IVF success when a heartbeat is visible, which is around 7 weeks. My RE has you come in at 6 weeks to make sure that the pregnancy isn't in your tubes as that's more common with IVF pregnancies. Then they have you come in at 7 weeks to see if they get a success out of you.

My 1st and 2nd ultrasounds for my DS were 5 days apart and there were no concerns. I think it is just a hard concept for non IF people to grasp. I HATED graduating to my OB and having very long waits between ultrasounds once I got used to the frequent ones at the RE.

That is pretty standard with pg as a result of IF treatments. I had weekly u/s with my RE until I was released to OB at 12 weeks. I don't think you have anything to worry about!

That sounds normal to me. Something I learned after I got some comments about baby's HB being "WAYYYYY low" from some people after my first u/s, take whatever anyone says with a grain of salt. Just because other people had babies too doesn't make them the expert in the field. You and your Dr know way more about your situation than anyone else.
