What to do for Anniversary Date Night?

This will the first anniversary (since our 1st one) where we'll actually get a date night out -just the two of us!  The last few there have always been family get-togethers planned which has been fine but now I'm super-excited to get a date night out w/my husband!  Wahoo!

But I could really use your help.  Any great ideas on what we can do/where we can go so we don't just end up going out to a movie or having takeout at home?  ;)   I'm not necessarily looking for anything super-fancy but I would like it to feel a little more "special" than usual.  TIA!  :)

Re: What to do for Anniversary Date Night?

  • I love going out to dinner on date nights. Someone else cooks and cleans up the meal, SO nice ;-)

  • Oh fun!  So we've done a lot of take out and a few evenings out.  The thing that works for us (being the old tired homebodies that we are) is going out EARLY.  Like 4 pm early.  Last date "night" we left C with Gramma at home and went to a tequila bar and had margaritas and apps in the afternoon and then an early movie.  We were home by 8 I think.  It was awesome.  The bar and theater weren't crowded because it was still afternoon, parking was plentiful, etc.  And we got home in time to do bedtime and still have time to sit on our sofa and watch a few Tivo'd shows.
  • Since you are a wine tasting expert now, why not head out to Livermore and do some wine tasting and then grab dinner?

Most wineries close at 4:30 or 5, but a few wine bars have opened that serve really good food and wine and are open later.  Let me know if you want any recs!

  • I was going to tell you to have nooky.  But maybe that part goes without saying.  I'd be all about trying out a new restaurant and pretending to be fancy (but again, maybe that's just me)

  • I like R's idea although not sure wine tasting will ever be the same without B and her knowledge and business card comps (maybe you can make a few fake ones up :)) . I do love the idea of a experience maybe even taking the ferry to SF grabbing a bite and heading home.. enjoy!
  • For our anniversary last week we just went out to a nice dinner. When DH called to make the reservation he also mentioned it was our anniversary and we were given a menu that had printed on the top 'happy anniversary E & C' and then complimentary dessert. It was just enough to make it feel special since we don't ever get date nights. :)

Otherwise I know it's a haul but I know a fab wine bar restaurant in Palo Alto ;)

  • We just went out to the SF Opera. DH really loves opera. We saw Don Giovanni. I really enjoy it when I am actually there, although I did get super tired and slept at the end, due to it being way past my bedtime. However, I thought it was a super fun night. We had dinner at Absinthe, which is nearby and it was delicious. Really great food. So that's one idea, but it's a pricey evening. As I said, it was Dh's choice to spend that money since he loved Mozart operas so much. Or you could find a good band playing at a nice venue, like the Greek, is always good or the Fox theater. Last month we saw Ray LaMontagne at the Greek, which was great.  Some of the museums have evening events like the De Young, that could be fun. I went to one, it was cool. but honestly, having a nice dinner and seeing a good movie would be super fun too. Have a great time!
