Woud you see the pedi?

Ugh. Molly has nasal congestion and a fever (101.4).   I've given her Tylenol to reduce her fever and she's been eating/sleeping fine. Obviously, she's more tired than usual, but between naps, she's in good spirits.

Would you go to the pedi or wait it out a couple of days?

Re: Woud you see the pedi?

  • If she got the fever and the Tylenol is working to bring down the fever I would probably wait over night.

  • We just saw the pedi for this yesterday.  But mainly I went because DS was also complaining of a sore throat, so I wanted to have him tested for strep since there were a few cases of it in his school over the past week or so.  He was neg for strep, so Dr. said it's just a virus he picked up and give him a few days and he'll be over it.

Since Molly is too little to tell you if her throat hurts, you might consider whether she has possibly been exposed to strep (she goes to MDO, right?).  If so, I'd take her just to rule it out.  If you don't think she's been exposed, or she's not acting like she's in pain or uncomfortable, I would probably wait it out a few days.  (I remember DS had strep at 9 months, and I could tell just by looking at his eyes and how he held his mouth that he was in pain.)

  • I'd ride it out for a few days. DD had similar symptoms a couple of weeks ago and the pedi said it was a virus. It took five or six days for the fever and congestion to go away completely.
  • I would call the nurses line.  They'll probably tell you to keep doing what you're doing--push fluids, nasal drops/spray, run the humidifier, etc.  But, they'll also tell you when you should call back and actually make an appointment.  Anytime I'm in doubt, I always call for peace of mind.  Hope your little one feels better soon!
