Hey All!
We need a new crib mattress and I'd love to get some feedback from you all about what you bought. Did anyone find a good organic one? Anyone do research and find one that had good reviews.
Thanks
P.S. If anyone found one that helps baby sleep through the night from the start, I'll pay double. HA!
Re: Crib Mattress- Organic or not?
And you can buy a cloth waterproof mattress cover to go over it as well if you don't like the vinyl. I can honestly tell you that with all the soaking through the diapers and spitting up you might want to stay away from mattresses that you can't remove the cover from.
I wouldn't waste the money to buy the "organic" one... Seriously, baby will provide enough "organic" matter of their own the first couple years... We bought the softest cheap one we could find and it worked for DD and will use the same mattress for LO when he gets here. I also highly recommend the zippered vinyl mattress cover because in the middle of the night when they've done one of the 3 P's all the way through the "waterproof" (yea right!) mattress pad, the last thing you want is have it soaking through the mattress too to clean up when you need to get up for something in a couple hours...
As for the sleeping through the night thing - Karp's "Happiest Baby on the Block", set a bedtime routine, and create a target rich environment for sleeping (diaper, outfit, bottle, swaddle, into bed), if they get up at night time, it's NO play time or lots of eye contact, it's strictly business overnight..
We got the Stearns & Foster Baby Dynasty Eco-Foam 2-Stage Infant-Toddler Mattress. It's organic even though we aren't into organic at all. But when it came time to buy the mattress, all I could see in the cheaper ones were the harsh chemicals and materials they use to make them.
I have a fairly serious breathing condition and I want to be able to prevent my child from developing it as best I can.
Fastest year of my life.
