Hi ladies,
I had my twins on Friday via c-section and was sent home monday with a percocet prescription with no refills. I had been taking 2 every 4 hours like they were giving me in the hospital (it said 1 every 4 hours on the bottle) because the pain has been just too much for me to handle. I feel weird asking for more since I did technically take more than prescribed. Would you call the office or just suck it up with a bunch of OTC meds?
Re: More pain meds needed? Ugh...
I hope if you are taking that much Percocet someone is driving you! I took one of those babies and I about fell over. I'm not big on narcotics.
I agree with PP to try alternating Tylenol and Advil every 2-3 hours. That is what I did and I only took the Percocet at night. It worked great. But, do NOT miss a dose!
HTH!
I'd ask for a refill from your dr. I know I did without hesitating after having my twins. I also had 1 refill with my recent birth of DS.
My OB with DS said to get creative to try and stretch out that last refill--i.e. I would take a half of a Vicodin and then 2 Motrin or I'd take 1 Vicodin and a motrin, etc. I think I was able to take up to 6 Motrins per day and then 1 Vicodin every 3-4 hours.
I will say that the need for my narcotic went away by the end of the 2nd week pp. I'm now still taking Motrin whenever I feel I need it. Hope that you too feel less of the needs for meds as the weeks go by!

I only had 1 baby and was in a lot of pain. I called the nurse, she had my doctor call me back, and he had no problem refilling it. He said he would rather do that, then see me suffering in pain trying to care for a newborn.
I honestly do not think you are taking too much. But, everyone has their own thoughts.
Just call and talk to your doctor. I am sure he will prescribe you some more...everyone has a different pain tolerance. But if I were you, I would try to start cutting back...just taking the 1 every 4 hours and then taking some motrin mixed in there. I just get scared of getting addicted with narcotics so I just try to take a little of it as needed.
