Honestly, I usually only care about the tree and then the 37th street lights (because DH proposed to me when we were walking down that street at Christmas time). But the last time we did 37th it was SO lame! Hardly any homes were decorated and most of the ones that did weren't nearly as into it as years past. Anyone know what happened there?

Most of the "regulars" who were really behind the big displays and getting everyone on the street rallied moved away.
grrr. I get irrationally miffed about this topic every year. I just don't understand (and admittedly don't know) all the details behind the budget concerns/etc.
So what is the deal w/ Pete's? Is there a charge, can you bring a wagon, etc?
Pete's is a walk through his front and backyard. He lives on a cul-de-sac. It isn't big enough to bring a wagon, but we went last year and carried M and it was a lot of fun. It is free. It sounds odd I know, but it was really impressive.
I want to hear more about the Buda one - anyone have details on that?
The private group putting it on couldn't raise the funds. How could they? It's stupidly expensive. It costs a shitton of money to put on the Trail of Lights. It costs more than $1,000,000 to put that circus on! The city use to fund it in the past. What a waste of money.
This is all the info they have on the website. It was obviously much smaller than the Austin one was, but it was a bunch of displays in a walking area around the park and then at the end they had snacks and drinks you could buy. I'm sure it will only get bigger since I think last year was the first year and especially since the Austin one is not happening again. It was always busy last year.

I wonder what happens to the money if you actually donated to the Trail of Lights thingie. Or maybe that was a scam all together.

Sounds like it might be worth a trip down South.
