Night-time "accidents"

Before I start - I just wanted to say hi!  I've never ventured over to this board.  I've been on TB since March 2010 when I found out I was expecting baby #2!  I never realized that there was a pre-school board!! :-)

Anyways, Cameron just turned 5 last week.  For the past 2 weeks he's been having an accident almost every night.  He's been potty-trained since he was 3, so this is nothing new to him.  When I ask him why he had an accident he just tells me that he didn't feel like getting up to go to the bathroom because he was to tired.  Wait, what?  So you'd rather pee the bed and have to sleep in it all night than get up to go??  I'm at a loss.  I don't want to have to put him in pull-ups - the kid is 5 years old!  I'm just wondering if maybe this is because his brother is in diapers, and it's acceptable to pee your pants (*Que Billy Madison reference*).

Any ideas for me?  I really don't know what to do!  DH wants to "threaten" to put him back in diapers just to see if it scares him enough...but I'm not sure that would work.  I'm at a total loss!!  TIA mommas! :-)

Re: Night-time "accidents"

  • An accident is just that- an accident.  Please don't threaten or berate your child because he had a couple.  I don't care how long he's been potty trained.  It is not outside the norm for kids to be peeing the bed at that age.  Maybe he's got some stress going on you aren't aware of; maybe he is starting to get sick & it's messing with his sleep; maybe he's got a UTI.  Or maybe he just had....an accident. If it continues, it may warrant a trip to the doc to get him checked out.  But until then, tell him you love him, have some extra sheets ready & give him some snuggles when it happens, because I'm pretty sure he's not wanting to be doing it - no matter what he tells you.
