Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Intro

Well...I guess I'll start from the beginning.

DH and I started TTC in June 2011. We got our BFP on 8/6/11 and miscarried naturally on 8/11/11...at 6 weeks and 1 day.

We met with my doctor who said wait one full cycle and then you can try again if you want to.

Well we wanted to...badly.

We started trying again and got pregnant on our first available cycle to start trying. I started spotting Saturday night and it continued yesterday. It was very light and only when I wiped. It also wasn't there every time. I called the doctor this morning anyways. After pretty much begging for her to see me just to be sure, she had me get bloodwork before I went.

My betas on Friday were 52. Today they were 27.

We're going to see a specialist once my doctor refers us to one. And we're thinking of taking 6 months off of TTC.

Anyways..sorry for the rambling. And I'm sorry that we all have to be on this board. Sad

  • I'm so sorry about your losses. I imagine it is so painful to have two so close together! I remember you from the July 09 board. I changed my screenname on the bump since I started posting here before we told any one about our pregnancy. Thinking of you!

  • This is one reason why I want to go to a specialist...both MC's happened at 6 weeks and 1 day according to my doctor. I find it hard to fathom that two consecutive miscarriages happen at the exact same point in pregnancy. Maybe it is possible, but nonetheless.

Can I get some input from you though? For those of you who've went through this. My dr took bloodwork on Friday. I asked for someone to call me with my Beta count. The OB nurse said "No, we don't do that because we don't do quantitative results unless we see a problem."

Um...okay. After I started spotting, I called in and basically was brushed off by the woman who answered the phone. Finally they called me in for blood work at the hospital just to "appease me" (their words-not mine). Then they set up an appointment for noon to talk about the results with my doctor.

When I went there, she said your Betas cut in half. I'm sorry but you're miscarrying. Come back Wednesday to verify your Betas are still going down. But I'm so sorry...expect to miscarry. And left.

Why would I need to go in for more Beta tests? The numbers aren't going to go up, down, up-are they?

Not only that...she left me with no answers. I even said,"Are you going to schedule a DNC or let me naturally do this?" She said,"I don't know."

I kind of feel like I was brushed off by this doctor.

The last time I MC'd I had an ultrasound and an exam done. This time neither one were done. It was just, "Oh sorry..just wait for it."

Should I have expected more to be done or is this normal?

Sorry for all the questions...last time I didn't know it was coming-it had just happened.

Thank you all so much for your kind words and support. I'm so glad I posted here! I wish all of us sticky babies soon!

My current doctor checks beta levels until they are all the way to 0. (My last doctor didn't do this, so I asked this doctor why) She said it is standard procedure - they do this to make sure the levels go done completely; to make sure everything passes and nothing is left. So... it IS a good thing that your doctor wants this done. :)

As for not knowing what is going on... I would call to speak with your doctor and ask questions. Ask her your options for miscarrying. (maybe think about what YOU would prefer before calling, so that you can make a plan with your doctor before ending the phone call)

GL, hun. I hope you get some answers from your doctor. You're in my thoughts.

Thank you so much for your answers...it makes sense now. With my first MC the first time I had lab work done, my numbers were already at 3.75 so they probably didn't figure I needed any more lab work finished.

I've decided to go ahead and see a  new doctor after all of this. I'm not happy with how my doctor handled it-or is handling it at all. I have an appointment with a new OB in a few weeks just to go over things and he'll determine if he thinks any testing is necessary.

I already felt better talking to him. He said,"You know, being able to get pregnant is a huge hurdle that some couples can't accomplish. You've reached that hurdle, now we just have to get you over this one." It made me feel better.

    DS siggy warning!

:::HUGS::: I'm sorry for your loss!! Welcome to a great board!!

How far a long were you this time?? Did they test your progesterone levels too? Did you have a CP the first time around? Sorry lots of questions. Just curious.

The day they found my betas were going down I was 6 weeks, 1 day. Same as the last one.

No testing of my prog levels-though I did ask. I was told "these things just happen." Twice? In a row? At 6w1d? Okay.

No the first time wasn't a CP. I started spotting-it progressively got worse and I miscarried within 12 hours of the first spot while I was in the ER.

I'm getting a new doctor because mine seems to have dismissed any questions I had regarding why I had two consecutive ones at 6w,1d. Although, my second one is occurring right now, my numbers started going down at the same point in pregnancy. I'm not a doctor, but I've done a lot of research on my prog levels and it would make sense to me. I'm not saying that's what is occurring, but my doctor isn't even willing to look into it. In fact, her response was,"Let me do research on multiple miscarriages." Um...no thanks. I'll go see an OB and just be done with this. (She's a GP.)

Sorry I'm still heated that my doctor wouldn't listen to me or my concerns.
